View Full Version : BRUTO Will live Again RWD 500 + BHP
A Few might remember this nova, it was started a fair few year ago, me and my bro bought it and will be getting built over the next year or so..
It will be going RWD instead of twin engine as what it was started to be built for.
Its getting jag diff, type 9 box and the engine out of my corsa which was running around 530 BHP. few pics and of car as it is now and the engine ...

looks like a great project mate
Corsa looks sweet, Nova will be a bit mental, good luck with it all.

Now this will be a bloody good bit of fun when finished, when's your deadline?
Corsa looks a fare weapon... what specs it running?
cheers no dead line really just as and when. Corsa engine is too big to list spec, but its bored, steel, ARPd and was running a hybrid gt3582r on emerald management. Turbo is now sold and will get another but unsure what yet, we wil make another manifold so turbo can be top mounted.

This will be mental. Keeping an eye on this
This is going to me mint RWD, I predict better 1/4 times too ;)

You want to dial those top mounts back as far as they'll go in the opposite direction.
The problem with that config of independent rear suspension & mid mounted XE is wishbone clearance if I remember correctly. But it'll be all good if you're going front engine RWD on it :)

Ha ha. quad is about finished now. just need to find a engine to put in corsa and get rid of it so we can dig nova out and get started. picked my box up other day so need to get a bellhousing for it then get an engine mockup built.
U get that cam fitted?

Yeah its deffo going front engine RWD. thinking of spaceframe front end same as a caterham, but unsure at the moment.
Ah hi Rick, looks like a awesome project. Corsa was a weapon.

Any plans as to what running gear you'll use at the back? Escort - Calibra diff?
Cheers Benn ;)
Im using a Jag diff which has a LSD standard, same as what they use on drag cars etc.. they are a bit big and heavy but more than capable of the job. probably have to have shafts made and unsure of hubs at the min. a friend of mine has a RWD fiesta rally car with jag diff set up so im going to look more in to that.
I am just waiting for diff to turn up but hopefully have it in next month or so. Its currently in a jag banger so it needs racing then i can have it.

What engine are you planning to run? :)
Will the jag diff be up to the job?
After having a read throu the write up on the firenza in total vauxhall this month, he twisted a jag diff in no time and had to seek a replacement one, he ended up with an american drag diff,
Looks like most of the monkey work is done :-) and it will be a beast
Scimitar axle would be up to the job, you can fit the jag LSD as its a salisbury axle and it's the same width as a chevette axle. Rumoured to be good for upto 1000bhp (the drag boys use them) it's also what Alex Darcy uses on his 500 horse rat kadett..

He's not going to be putting V8 torque through 15" wide slicks though, jag axle would laugh it off on the nova.
/\ I havent got a clue when it comes to Rwd lol I'll stick to fwd for the moment,
Bit of an update, bought a type 9 for the RWD nova, but not done alot with it. Bought another nova and been doing my mates turbo, making a exhaust system and inlet manifold.
Plans for the SR are to put a 20XE in on 45s with port and polished head, kent cams and manifold, got most bits just need some gaskets then it can go together.
Few pics .......

Beautiful welding on the exhaust, why are you breaking the Corsa up? Sr looks nice and clean.
Cheers my bro is the welder lol. Im selling the corsa, just had enough with it, had 2 mag features with it so think its time to move on.
nova is clean but it has been painted for whatever reason, the paint job is utter shocking so going to get it up and running then give it a blow over and re vinal it. might put gsi bumpers and skirts on it aswell.
Oh really? I haven't seen them, bugger.
Nova plans sound good.

Very cool project I fancy doing a yb turbo rwd nova when iv finished my other projects. If the type 9 box is standard it won't last long with 530hp! I couldn't get them to last long on a standard 2.8i capri with some abuse and with a turbo on it the type 9's would blow to bits! So went cosworth t5 in the end, run with in my saff Cossie at 500hp never give me any probs.

I was going to built a straight cut type 9 but still unsure. What is the price like for a t5 box? What's size difference? Cheers.

The t9 even with quaife gear kit are only rated at around 250hp. A t5 you can pick up for around £300-500. Will save u in the long run over the price on type 9's u have to replace all the time. The t5 is the same length as a type 9 but slightly wider the stick is in the same place only disadvantage is their a bit heavier. I have seen t5's on the back of c20 xe's and let's so must be someone out there who does a conversion kit.
Ah rite I might look for one then RWD Motorsport do the conversion for the t5 to xe
Bought a load of bits to build the xe up for the SR so just need to get it built now. Next job is to get one of my xe engines in to the corsa so i can get it sold and make room for bruto. Cant wait to get on with it but its cluttered up at the moment and cant get near it.
Also bought some eagleman mirrors for bruto.

And that rumour is just a myth!
My mates killed two now in his supra powered Capri,
Circa 450bhpish
Got engine built just about for the SR get it finished off tomorrow.

Cool project. Is that the sane Corsa that was on eBay a while ago ?
As for gearboxes don't waste your time with a type 9, my t5 dog box is still only rated to 440lbft so don't expect a normal t5 to be a fit and forget item.
As for axles why use a live axle ? Is it a drag only car ? They obviously work but apart from the Mustang8.8, Ford 9" there isn't really a solid alternative, Atlas is good but you will pay a heavy premium for a proper one.

yeah i put it on ebay a while ago then decided to break it. think a t5 box would be better but still unsure. not sure about axels either, i have a scimiter one coming but might not use it. it is going to be on the road, i might use it for drag at some point but will be for fun mainly.
Surprised it didn't sell! Lot of car for the money.
T5 will crap itself at 500hp, maybe if you use heavy shock fluid and treat it with respect it will be ok.
I run a t5 glebe which after looking up is quoted to handle 500hp 480lbft, it's running on heavy shock fluid as well.
don't people fit volvo 200/700 series axles anymore??? they are meant to be the strong ones.
Hard to find or get parts for.
The Yank stuff is best as its cheap and you can get tons of different ratios, plus the lsd's are cheap.
There is alot of options so going to have to sit down with google for an afternoon and do some research. The car currently has trailing arms which nova/Corsa hubs fit straight in to. I also have an omega rear end, and was thinking of using the hubs and shafts as they look quite beefy and spairs are ten a penny, maybe look at a BMW M3 diff????
A M3 with stock power can break the diff, Supra diff is where its at really. They are very strong.
Well still no progress but i went and picked another car up last nite for the engine out off it to go in to my corsa to sell. so once corsa has gone i can dig the nova out. lots to do just no motivation at the mo.
Astra i picked up last nite....
