View Full Version : Alternatives to a Nova LET

Having had a few high power LET Nova's and recently letting an XE go I've been looking for alternative car projects. Ive just sold my TVR which was fairly quick and had great throttle response but it was never going to be as brutal or reliable as the Nova. Question is what alternatives are there? Brief is as follows:

-Properly fast
-Not stupid on fuel
-Cheap to insure (maybe classic?)
-Cheap parts
-Reliable :wtf:
-Not an everyday car but maybe parked on the drive

My last nova was around 280hp/tonne gave well over 30mpg in normal driving and went like the clappers (nothing I have been in has ever come close). Been looking at few Pulsar GTiRs now they are on classic but even my mates 400hp example doesnt seem to feel as fast as a Nova (4WD losses and heavy). So how am I now arriving back at a Nova LET as the ultimate low cost performance machine!?!?!

Needs to have some cult following I think...thats why I have been thinking about a Jap project. There is however a Nova LET for sale at the mo in blue. Just messaged the lad, watch this space!

I'm afraid you've got the Nova bug and will never look back, nothing will make you have that grin on your face of the LET tbh lol

Definitely jap if you want something reliable. 4WD isn't slow as such, I would guess my Nova was more powerful than the GT4 in terms of power-to-weight, but the Celica was just as fast in a straight line and point to point was a lot faster even though it didn't feel it.

Difference was the Nova felt like it was doing 100 at 30, the Celica feels like its doing 30 at 100 lol

Yeh it seems that way...its all down to the amount of hours I used to spend reading total vauxhall as a kid! Defo some kind of attachment to them.

Cat d vx220 2.2 with a supercharger added. Or a cat d vxt220 with some of those ghey stage tunes.

So properly fast, but doesn't use a lot of fuel.

Have you tried jumping on Usain bolt?

A maximum of 200 metres and out of fuel will be useless though lol

Yeh TVR would give 15mpg, nova more than 30mpg and nova is much faster.

Corsa B LET

Can build one much much easier than a Nova, most things are ready or just bolt on

Why did you get rid of your previous let novas?

What about a xe mini, or a z cars mini (bike engines)

Supercharged Civic Type R. As quick as a LET Nova, totally reliable as its Jap and plenty of spares/second hand mods around for them.

Handle pretty well and none of the rust issues you get with Nova's/Corsa's.

Or one of the Civic Turbos thats on eBay at the minute. Might be ITRO £5~6k but a ten second running car none the less.

There was a genuine Z Cars mini on CoPart for salvage a few weeks ago, engine fire in the rear. £9k ended at.

I used to go and watch autograss, 2 R1 engines in a mini, that's some serious acceleration :D

Jap cars are not cheap to modify, my pal bought a turbo kit for his EP3 that cost £1400, it was just manifold turbo, intercooler etc, he still had to spend over a grand on other stuff like kpro and remap etc.

I bought a 291bhp LET for my Nova for £1100, and it was nearly twice as quick as his civic.

His engine then blew up and mine is still going strong now.

Just a comparison.

Thats the thing they are so cheap in comparison and reliable.

What about as Ive already said, kit car type thing with either bike engine, of if you love the old XE lumps, you can XEITB or LET one??
