well after looking at my insurance this year with my plans of xe'ing the nova lets just say thats out the window for another year!

im going to stick with the e16 and am wondering what decent mods can i do to increase power, obviously the mpg will drop but i dont want it to be stupid?
from what i understand the standard management system is very restrictive and limits pretty much anything you can do. so if anyone has any ideas let me know :thumb:

Putting standalone management on it would cost as much as insuring an XE engine. So I'd say you are limited to playing with basic mods on the std engine setup.

Personally I'd spend the money on a LSD gearbox & premium suspension & brake upgrades.

Turbocharger ?
Twin 40's ?

How much you want to spend ?

I have about 600 quid to spend, twin carbs sound good, but I have heard mixed views about mpg on carbs. It's on coilovders and is running 2 litre brakes, So its not to bad on this front.
What would I gain from a LSD it doesn't feel like I have enough power to need one?

If you take lsd you will feel like you have the power

get the head ported, a decent cam & performance chimney.

that should cost about £600, and give it about 15hp....

Haha! I'm sure that's against the law

allow about 250 quid for a head tidy up
about 120 for an autosprint regrind
that leaves plenty for a new head gasket & a loud chimney.

Basically, if you are lucky you might get a 10% gain for £600, but that might only get you back to std power with wear etc.

if you dead set on putting a xe in the car next year, i personally wouldnt spend the money on the 1.6 (not that it wouldnt be worth it or fun) i would buy a xe and rebuild it with the 600 quid, that way you will have a fresh engine ready to go into the old girl

Yeah thats sensible, just love the idea of a speedy little 8v. What about the twin 40 route

Minor power gain, but the noise is ace. Would nuke the whole budget including setup

by all means do it if thats what you want to do, twin carbed engines sound the dogs and you could get the money back when you pull them out for the Xe so its not a complete loss

Cleared!

Yeah thats what I was thinking its a investment really Haha. I.just hate the standard injection system. Tbh 10 bhp.is a lot when you realistically have about 70

And why do you hate it...

go tech ecu suitable for 1.6 8v in the forsale section at £250, spend the remainder on a cam or a decent headjob
