while bored sat at work (saturday job doing classic car restoration) i had a flick through a classic car magazine and noticed a nova for sale in the adds...







we rung and organised viewing at 5:00 today, headed up with the van and trailer to be met by a tidy 1.2 merit, 75k, full history, 2 owners (one being an old lady until six months ago), i exchanged a small amount of cash and came home with this-

thanks mate, not sure yet, i've got a early Nova swing interior (the brown and cream one) to go in it, coilovers, 13" sr steels, get 2 front wings and 2 rear arches done anyway, and then possibly an early sr or gt rep? I want to build up the 1200 from it with a decent 421, full system, cam, and carbs aswell.

brought it from bedford? and it was but it's up for sale as i decided that after picking up this hatch and moving for college, that this is the best to keep.

Managed to pick up a bargain early nova swing interior, the seats were Really dirty but after a deal with my mum for her to clean them in an exchange for me cutting the lawn the seats are scrubbing up really nicely, so the parts i brought-

Really need some brown circle trim clips? the same as the ones the boot trim are held on with.
-so far mum's managed to scrub both sections of the rear bench, and i've cleaned and moved over all the parts apart from the pair of front seats and the bottom of the rear bench which i will get sorted soon, really happy with how it's looking now tho, (the dash, under tray, and carpets i acquired above are all for sale, along with the old interior from the hatch.

was just standard clear glass, i had the full interior out of it, and the early mirror and blank, all that was really left was the rub strips, early boot, early rear bumper, plough, and the two 13" sr's (the other two were newer steels)

Thanks :) i think the plan is to go early opel gt rep on the outside, get the rear arches re done and blown over, and eventually a 1300. not sure where to go for wheels tho... i'm stuck between some split rims i have, wellers, or get the steelies on it banded

picked this up for her off ebay, hopefully as i'm on half term i'll get a chance to fit the dials, opel badges, passanger mirror, and the exhaust. also want to get the small fuel leak sorted from the pipe into the tank, and have the front wings off and clean and paint behind them

put the backbox on today, it really does sound so nice! :) there was a slight incident involving an engine and a rip in my drivers doorcard tho :cry: so now got to try and get it repaired or replaced.

Thanks mate, picked up some bargain twin 40's for it, and know of an irmisher inlet manifold and airbox, so fingers crossed! When the civic sells i'm going to do a engine rebuild, hopefully with some trick parts, all ready for February when i can drive, i'm trying to decide if i should go revolution rfx's, get the 13" sr's banded, or some comp th's.

Picked up a cheap little 1300 to slowly build up to eventually be swapped over when i can afford insurance, it was cheap so i couldn't say no:

And last but by no means least...! i went out today with my brother to drop a friend in a local village, spotted a nova... and within half an hour the deal was done and we were taking it home lol, my dad was angry to say the least but i'm sure he'll survive!

i agree with the early sr seats, i'd be happy with some daytona material to retrim into these seats as the boulsters are fine, the colour came up so nice polished, and that was only one coat!

Plans are to get the race car finished this weekend, then i have till middle/ end of february to crack on with this, i have two wings, going to get a pair of rear arches, underneath stripped off and painted with powdercoated parts, and an engine rebuild... so not much lol

i stripped the underneath off down to the origional paint, treated any spots of surface rust, zink primered it, hammerite stone chipped it, then a coat of clear waxoil. i have behind the fuel tank and the exhaust tunnel left to do, but this will be done soon as i'm going to pick up a new tank and do it in one go on the ramp at work. then i also have behind the front wings to do.

this one, the seams down the middle i didn't do, it was on some scrap ally, but i was really impressed at the quality of some of the welds i was producing, especially as i've only actually done it for about an hour and a half! a few of them arn't great, but then your arm does start to ache after a while of running off lines and lines of welds.

they'd run lpg normally, bore, stroke, head, everythings the same apart from the compression ratio as they have a thicker head gasket apparently, so would be an easy fix :)

done 1500 trouble free miles in her so far! including a 90 mile 12 car road rally last weekend, which was great fun :D placed second in the end!!!

ermmm it depends on how fat the people in the back are lol, i had to space them out 15mm and also coverted it to studs and nuts in the meantime. hmmm i doubt i will to be honest at the minute i'm working 6 days a week and either racing or sorting my cars on the 7th :(

I think they're pretty epic for the car actually! Recaro's will be comfy as fcuk and iirc the interior of those is all cream so it suits that, retro as you like :)

Retrimming them in cream leather will make them look a bit cheap imo, but then I'm not a fan of half leathers at all, just looks a bit weird to me.

had a sit in them the other day, there insanely comfy, and i see what you mean but as there manta seats i need to get the backseat retrimmed into a nova one anyway, (which luckily the manta one is far bigger so theres more material, and the front d/s one has very slight boulster wear, so if i'm going to get them done than half leather is an option, especially as the headrests, and all round the back are cream leather

thankyou mate, it's getting there but really far from perfect, yes it was the correct exhaust, 1300 manifold and downpipe, original center section, and the ashley backbox, problem is the center box gets a fair hammering where it's lowered,so it was all out of line, as i didn't have time to fix it i just tightened it up, in the process i polybushed it but the rear wouldn't go on propperly, so it ended up being jubiliee clipped, but i've since had the time to have it off and do it properly
