I have an issue that the revs are staying high at idle, 'sometimes' but not always.

Once warmed up it will normally rev at 1000rpm (but sometimes at about 800rpm), but it will sometimes stick at about 2000rpm. It has got worse since refitting the automatic choke (to replace the manual someone had fitted in it's past) and will rev at 2000rpm as it gets warmer. It revs at about 700-800 when first started.

I want to get it all set up properly but struggling to find a local garage that will look at a carburettor!

Any comments appreciated!

I've heard that comment before.

But surely it must have worked when new else Vauxhall wouldn't have fitted it. So it must be possible to get it working right again!

buy a new one, aswell as all the jamming they have a heat reactant spring, after 20+ years that spring won't be very heat reacty

I had to remove the auto choke on my old sr,
Unless you can get the carb rebuilt I would reccomend getting rid or you'll just have problems

problems like stopping for fuel and the car not starting again because the engines cooled enough to need the choke but the choke is hot enough to be fully open
