Hi Guys,

Recently bought this little gem, a 1400sr with twin 40's.

Had some welding done in usual places, battery tray and inner wing which jon from png sorted many thanks. Question is, will this front panel section pass a MOT? Have ordered a new slam panel but was hoping to sort in winter, and use sr for now.

Will you be driving it like that for mot, i think not lol

So bung the wing back on, and cover that area in some fibreglass and if they cant see it, they cant fail it!

Ive seen a lad tigerseal a patch of metal in that place, then cover the edges with blu-tack to look like seam sealer, then paint it red to match his car and said it had been freshly welded lol

/\ haha that reminded me of ade's sill, abit of 2x4" and some body filler haha,

As spud said half of that will be covered, so just cover what you can see,

Ima tester mate and if you presented it like that i "would 100%" fail it lol however if you can make it look neater and not totally bodged as to take the eye off it im sure it wouldnt grab the testers attention

why not just plate it up?

If it's within 30cm of steering, suspension or brakes it's a straight fail. That isn't. If the front panel is still attached to the inner wing, and the headlamp and outer wing are secure, I'd advise and pass that. If your in doubt, take the pics to the test station, and ask the tester there. If your in doubt, plate it. Doesn't have to be pretty to pass an MOT

I mean if you're going to go to the trouble of bodging it up for an mot, it'd take what 30 mins longer to weld some plates on?

Yes very true John, the slam panel also needs replacing so didn't wanna weld a new plate to that. So might just do the both if we get a dry weekend. Do it once rather than twice!

Dont stick your head in the sand by covering it up. You will be better off repairing it properly. Afterall if an accident were to happen you might regret it. We all hate it when our cars fail an mot but cars have to be as safe as possible for a reason :thumb:
