RUST

-behind headlights
-wings
-rear arches
-boot floor
-sills
-tailgate
-bottoms of doors
-bonnet
-battery tray
-inner wings

get under it and have a poke about with a screw driver and a torch, if its being sold as a solid car they shouldnt mind.

Basically everywhere can and will rust on a Nova. I think with Nova ownership you should be prepared to have welding done at some point, and ideally have your own mig welder.

How bad is the rust on yours? as you'll be lucky to get one thats totally rust free, especially if budget is an issue.

bring a magnet aswell, make sure the arches arnt full of filler

I don't want to sound stupid, but why are you selling a Nova that you know the condition of to buy another that might end up worse and potentially pay more for?!?

novadave24

because now ive found out were to look for rust rot and holes so i could tell if the car is a good one or not as when i got my gte i diddent really know of all of the rust spots lol

Get some photos up of the rotten areas, so we can see how bad they are. I really would think about sorting them out unless its really bad, it could cost you a whole lot more than maybe £200 of welding work to get a replacement Nova, especially if you want a certain spec Nova and not some base model 5 door.

novadave24
01-08-12, 06:31 PM
ive been to garages and the price just to do the under part they saying can be from £300 to £700 then plus the boot needs doing about £50 i would really like to have a redtop nova now ive had tow sr novas 1.3 and now have a gte 1.6 and no way i would never go to a 5 door nova .

Get some photos up anyway, their estimates may be off. It will help to sell the car if you show pics and if the rust isn't that terrible, as people will think the worst from your current ebay description.

from your ebay ad:

the rear tow hook will have to be put back on as well the front is ok but the front tow hook is of and will need welding back on

then...

it will need towing as no tax

hmmm!

If it's a mk2, the chassis legs, all four from back to front, that was the main rust on mine which made it past repair.

Fix it, theres plenty of handy welding guys on here... you'll regret selling it and then won't get another I bet which you'll be happy with.

My thoughts exactly ALL novas need or will need welding, mine looks awesome but needs rear arches, sills and probably both front wings!

If you sell one because youre scared of the rot, and then go out and buy another one, youre on smack and need your head looking at

paul james
01-08-12, 07:53 PM
A bit hard to tell from those pictures. But if the serious rot hasn't got as far as the spring seats and beam mounts then its an easy enough fix.

novadave24
01-08-12, 07:59 PM
the left spring ant even got a seat mot man said it needs work now and not to drive it like that just really slow :(

Get some cash together and sort the welding out IMO, it's a decent car once fixed and will be the car your wanting in the end... don't sell it for the sake of the welding, there's plenty of people who should be able to sort your Nova.

novadave24
07-08-12, 07:08 PM
yeah i know there is people out there but some i just dont really trust as they say somethings dont sound right but i got till the 11th to relist it on the bay and there is one more garage i sort have nere me to go and ask he had a black nova on the bay a few weeks ago he done all the under part on so he might be a good one i go see thursday .
i do want to keep it as its a gte and in that blue and really want to do a let nova ;)

Go the rot sorted yet? not much point in thinking of anything else before you've done that, especially putting in a more powerful engine.

novadave24
16-08-12, 04:28 PM
iam going to get it all welded next month then get all the engine bay all welded up as well so engine not changing for a bit yet lol

paul james
16-08-12, 04:48 PM
Nice one, personally I would keep it as standard as possible. Theres not many GTE's about now, so one in standard form is more special and impressive than a modded Nova. If it were mine I would concentrate on making it as tidy as possible, leave the engine conversions to the base models! :)

Southie
16-08-12, 06:59 PM
Its a rare colour and becoming a very very rare model now the GTE, personally it would be scandalous to swap engines but of course that's your choice.

Glad your keeping it and sorting the welding out, enjoy it ;)

for tuning, a gte engine is a money pit...

buy some decent brakes, tyres & suspension, and maximise what power you already have.. 100hp used effectively is way better than 150hp spinning up the wheels all the time
