pie
31-07-12, 07:53 PM

Spudly
31-07-12, 07:55 PM
Pie im talking 1990's bikes here, cant beat some of them for the prices theyre going for in comparison to what they were new :d

You can do retromod (i think the term is) but most of them depending on size and age, wont take well to large travel forks as the geometry isnt right for them, but wheels and drivetrains yes you can as ive seen it done:thumb:

More for fitting massive discs than anything else lol

Although it will probably be cheaper to buy a 2011 model middle of the range xc bike and fit dh brakes to it like i did last time lol

Then my 1998 caldera bought last august as a birthday present to myself!

A statement :) I hate bikes that you have to push to the top and roll down with 20ft travel front and back, pointless imo

Ahhh, it just confuddled me lol

Saw a guy on a dale earlier on, muctve been circa '96 as it had m600 v brakes and stx, did have a headshok and fatty's though, he looked like he had no clue what it was as it was grafted, had a rack on and the brakes were so worn, his levers touched the bars when he braked, looked at me wierd as i was eyeing his bike up lol

Spud you've got some nice push irons matey ;)

I used to have an Orange [not just the colour] bike for a week when I was 17 but it got nicked, cost me a small fortune :(

I'll search for a pic if I can remember which one it was lol
Edit: I think it was a P7, nothing spectacular lol

Spudly
31-07-12, 09:07 PM
Cheers dude, im forever on the bay and RB looking for more bikes/bits :d

My mate used to have a C-16R when they first came out, full STX spec in a really nice green, left it at someones gate doing his paper round and surprise surprise it got ridden off by some lowlife chav!

He got a polished steel coloured 16R after that, which was nice but didnt look as sexy as the green one!

Edd

My bike

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr359/EDDRODGERS/2012-06-05122131.jpgbest bike ever made of its time, bomb proof frame, id love one of these agian if it had rear disc mounts...

02-08-12, 03:05 PM
those cannondale frames are super light aswell, my dads got a f3000sl as his race bike and I think its about 24lbs still with a lot of heavy parts on it

Spudly
02-08-12, 10:53 PM
But then on the flip side, good steel frames can be lighter or as light as alu, but still give a livelier ride, for example the 1993 lava dome as pictured in my post, also weighs 24lb, (24.4 to be exact) it absolutely flies, can't wait till winter as I'll fit some knobblies and get it back on the trails :d

^ thats not a bike, well don't look like you can ride it anyway lol

Steel frames suck ass imo, ive always had Cannondale frames, apart from a Pace rc200 there the best imo, steel frames ain't as responsive
but really its just personal tastes with bikes

Spudly
03-08-12, 07:58 AM
Bubba, im constantly on the bay or RB looking for more lol

I cant say i agree with that tbf Edd, i rode an alu frame for years, (1996 Giant ATX 850) had it kitted out to similar spec to the Caldera i now have and the ride on the Caldera is noticeably better than that of the alu framed Giant, so responsive and lively to ride, i did a big (ish) ride up the coast a few years back, with some mates (also on here) and one was on a 24" wheeled jump bike, one on a modern Giant and one on a modern Carrera (all alu frames i think) and on the last sprint back i was off, and im nowhere near the fittest of the bunch, and i reckon part of it was down to the ride of the Kona, and about the last three miles were a steady uphill gradient, it was awesome!!

Edd
03-08-12, 08:08 AM
Its like a Speedline debate lol just personal tastes really Spud

24sevenslacker
03-08-12, 09:26 AM
it all depends on what you prefer i suppose, i dont mind steel frames as long as they are good quality, some alloy frames feel bab, but some feel super stiff, like the orange miii (which i really want btw) anyway heres mine, from past to present

decathalon rockhopper, good xc bike, really light, good for riding up hills, also good for coming down them, could chuck it about a lot, bought this for £50 legit lol
http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/195_14386338707_8837_n.jpg

24seven dark angel slacker, best bike i have owned, steel frame, really stiff, 24" wheels, basically the bike i learnt all the basics on and more

its currently just a frame in my bedroom lol

norco 6-2, good allround bike, could do basically everything on it

sold that when i was desperate for money

giant xtrance, again really good alrounder, its got 1" less travel than the norco but rides better
http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/317557_10150403373443708_1744648499_n.jpg

Funking wicked bike, could handle all the abuse I threw at it and it laughed at me. Best £20 buy I ever had. All legit as well. A friend of mine had it, went and got a quote on some work that needed doing, about £200 worth iirc, he said fcuk that! Mentioned it to me, I said to him, I'll give you what you paid for it, spend less than £20 and I'll get it working and running, he didn't believe me, but I did it lol new chain and half hour of tinkering, sorted!

Unfortunately, I went to upgrade/fix something (can't remember which) and got called indoors, forgot about it, next thing I know, it got stolen out of my garden :( :(

Always searching the bay for one, however they rarely come up in good condition, and even then they always go for more money than I have :(

what do people use to clean their bike etc?

Connor
05-08-12, 04:06 PM
People clean there bikes?
Nah jokes, i use a Muc-off style product, and then use soapy water for the rest, rinse down with a hose.
Alot of people i know pressure wash there bike, but it rips decals off and also c0cks the bearings up (imo)

pie
05-08-12, 04:12 PM
just come bk in now from the dow hill track n its bogging lol i aint putting it away dirty lol

id never jet wash it as you say can fuk thing up etc :)

Spudly
05-08-12, 06:55 PM
Ive jetwashed bikes before now, if you dont use it directly on hubs and BB's then its fine, never go close enough to damge paint or peel decals off and again, its fine :p

Normally ill wait till the crud is dry, then strip the entire bike and use polish stuffs similar to mr sheen and clean it all down with that, before lubing and rebuilding everything :d

streets are fine,as are police, but on a national speed limit road,it gets dangerous, and im fukked if im stopping to get a fine lol
