Evening,
I'm currently running Spax RSX coilovers, but need to machine the platforms for 2.25" springs and would like a coilver rear shck as well. There used to be a club discount but cant find it anywhere...
A mate is friends with the Gaz boys and has given me a couple of prices for GHA's and Golds. Just wondered what the club offer was.

Club offer used to £425ish incl delivery. I have talked to Gaz direct about getting similar prices (as a business) and they wouldn't go anywhere near that price without a large order. Think the best we could manage was just over £500.

That was GHA, golds were near a grand iirc.

If you can get them near cost then yes they are nice and cheap ;)

Well I know GHA's with just RJ's on the end are about £60-80 a corner depending on length etc, so I imagine cost price must be just below/near that?
I assume it's just nova shape tabs welded into basically standard units rather than a massively different overhauled design anyway.
I don't think any company is stupid to sell things at cost... But the prices were cheaper than both of those. Lead times for either were a month and I could specify spring rates and lengths.
I've had a few items at cost from them but then I did push several grands worth of business their way without taking a cut lol

I presume with all of them, the damper units are carry over... and fab'd bodies to suit the application.
The basic valves are the same, but different machined bodies to suit the application

Ok, then yeh, you are likely to be able to pull that card. From my experience of working at ECP, the lowest they'd ever drop to on parts is 20% unless one of the directors authorised it...

Is it worth all the extra cash for Golds for just trackdays? Basically, it's an extra £325 for the Golds compared to GHA's
Can they do mono tubes in nova fitment, mind you that is a grand lol

The bodies are physically bigger, so it figures they'll dampen better and for longer than smaller ones.

They're bump and rebound so bound to be slightly bigger. If I was racing there would be no question, but for trackdays are they really required!?
More settings to play with = win for me, but I know you're a bit more fit and forget, I like to fiddle lol

Fiddling is cool, but the spring rates I'm looking to run will make the car a track car rather than road, and there's only so much you can do on a trackday... £325 will get me some other goodies :)
I think I'll go with the GHA's. Just need to have a think what spring lengths and rates to run...

Harder springs than most will suggest. Hard springs and softer damping really suits the gaz's IMHO.

I'm thinking 500lb front and 425lb rear.
Iain has given me some spring lengths, of 7" front and 9" rear.
Will get them ordered this week :)

Iain has given me lots of info and advice about the GAZ GHA's on his car and issues he's had. Has anyone requested shorter bodies from GAZ? Looking at Iain's front ride height, it's similar to mine, but he's only getting ~25mm travel with a 7" spring. I was looking to shorten the bodies 25m and then run an 8" spring to compensate. (no helpers)
What's peoples thoughts?
Also, if I'm taking 25mm off the front bodies, do I take it off the rear too? and run a 10" spring? as opposed to Iain's 9" springs.
Any help, thoughts and opinions appreciated! There is very little about the issues relating to travel and spring length/shortened bodies.
425 is way too stiff for the rear, I would go 300 max
And 600 front
If you can get short bodies then go for it, that way you can go low without being on the bump stops

I've changed and gone to 400lb rear. I don't run ARB's, but use slick tyres, so compensating with the spring rate.
Are your thoughts to go shorter bodies all round then? I don't what amount of travel or how much adjustment is left on the rear etc. on Iains so haven't got anything to go on. Searched on here, but no joy.
Yeah short bodied all round.
And I would run a rear arb but not front

right ok, cheers Mieran. Am I likely to need a 10" spring with the shorter body or is there still plenty of thread to run a 9"?
I think I may have a rear ARB somewhere. Was looking at the Cav/Astra mod you've done.
Still think I might try 400lb. my friend's mk2 golf is running 900lb rear with standard arb etc and 850lb front. My cage isn't tagged into the rear shock pick-ups. Still got to fit a rear strut brace.
I was once told by someone in the know that once you have the cage diagonals on the strut tops welding in a strut brace doesn't add a whole lot for the weight increase given how vertical the coilovers are.

Run harder springs then take it off and you'll see the difference ;)

Cheers chaps! Ordered today... Spec is as follows
Front: 500lb 8" Open spring
Rear: 400lb 10" Open Spring
Front and Rear bodies shortened by 25mm
Fingers crossed the figures stack up and the spring lengths work with tyre clearance and the ride height I want to run.
How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking?
