lots of free time atm so stripped bits off engine got them painted and back on also swapped chrome work off the redtop and put it onto turbo, fitted painted rocker cover and belt cover all ready for it going in.
also ive got a flat flywheel to fit along with a new clucth, so will get that fitted probs start of next week then i need a gearbox will either be f20 or f18 see what comes up first really.
pik of engine now....

well got most of the engine built up just to see if everything is there for the big day and it looks like it is, been getting my head around the wiring and with the engine coming out of a corsa it has made it a bit harder as its al ready been cut and an ignition live fitted to the loom, i think ive just about got every wire i need to join but i doubt i can keep the plug and play i had with the redtop, but anyways got the engine almost ready, put a flat type flywheel and new clucth on it as there meant to be better, which is understandable as its just a touch lighter haha. only the brake servo left to come out of the engine bay as well as rack but that will have to stay in until its towed to the paint shop. ive been trying to hide wires as well as i want noithing in the engine bay so all light loom has been ran down the passengerside wing and engine harness is now coming thro behind the engine instead of near the battery plus it keeps all my connecters in the car so stops them from getting wet

ooo i doubt i will sell trhe wheels, and i love that cut off of the original club, i had been told it should have white bumpers and might get theses ones done, the car did have the black bits on thepillars when i first got it i presumed theyd been added by someone, really happy to see what it should be in its standard guise, and ive never seen this interior before, hope its one of the only ones left!!

The f18 won't last that long I wouldn't have thought,

Although my mate got a v6 on an f18 and that's been fine,

I blew an f20 on a phase 1 let in about a week of driving :(

Went for an f28 in the end cause I got a bargain

Been trying to put a digi dash in the car and was told it wouldn't fit in the mk1 dash so this is my effort and it looks decent tbh quite pleased with it took a bit of cutting and modifying of the heaters but I'm sure it wil all work once in the car, also got the engine on the hoist to get sump off and clean out oil feed and return just to be on the safe side, car shud be bk by next weekend so should get engine in next week can't wait.

Wey engines in and dash is out, started early on sat morning I've also extended all my lights loom to under the wing and u can notice there's no grommets in the top of the firewall and all starter wires are hidden and I've also ran the engine loom into a lower hole in the firewall so it's out of sight still a long way from being finished but happy with progress so far. Few pictures

Thanks again lads, Novas are still pretty new to me so trying to make it a bit different to the rest , hopefully have it somewhere near running by next weekend, what do people think of a corsa c header tank? Or is there any other options for a small header tank? Cheers

If you want a front mounted ic, cutting the front panel is the only way really.

I use a Corsa C tank mounted up in the scuttle tray. Works perfect and has two inlets so its the perfect fit.

Thanks lads I'm going to try a different cooler as this ones too big I think, and yeah going to get a tank from the scrappy today just to see how it will fit

Very cool project, glad you left corsas behind for a nova!

One thing though, and maybe its just my eyes, but there's no mention of seam welding the front end or any kind of strengthening? Novas aren't as strong as corsas and really can't handle this sort of power for too long.

joey17
02-10-12, 03:06 PM
Thanks mate and its all been done whilst it was getting painted sorry I forgot to mention that, but yeah it's all seen welded and had a full new front panel before Christmas aswell so should be strong enough I think

joey17

Cheers mate, and it was ok to be honest I had to blank one if the heater pipes off on the back of the dash and cut away quite a bit, I then had to fix the digi dash into the dash I've had it bin the car and it looks good, bit of patience and its a doddle

Been buisy all day today aswell got all water pipes made up apart from top rad one, going to have to do a scrappy run and see what I can find, also got all vacuum pipes on and just generally finished stuff off, when I had the redtop in the brakes were poor to say the least so I've fitted some other 2 litre callipers and put my braided brake lines on , I bled the rears up aswell as I hadn't done that since fitting the back axle, here's some piks

I know you said the wires for the ecu went through the blank next to the brake pedal and the battery wires next to the blower motor is there any chance you could stick a couple of arrows on your pics or even take a pic of the wires so I can see exactly where your running them? also did you have any problems with clearance of the brake pedal? Looking sweet though see your getting there now! :)

joey17
06-10-12, 09:27 PM
Yeah getting there mate, it would be finished if I had more time and doing it all myself takes time but I'd rather it that way as I know it's all done right, and yeah mate I could post a picture but my wiring may be different to yours as mine had a redtop in before, and yeah plenty clearance from brake pedal mate I'm making sure everything is tucked away and held out the way of Any moving parts

Is it just me or does the engine look way too high on the offside there, i think you might have the bolts in the wrong hole in the mount there tbf, it should be more level to the slam panel should it not?

joey17
06-10-12, 10:11 PM
Ner engine sits sweet mate might look a bit cok off on there because I have that mount loose to get the crank pulley and alt belt on

And as for the rad and cooler I have just used the frontera cooler and gsi rad but cut all the mountings off both and I'm just going to have them held in place by the pipes connecting to it for now until I find another solution not the best I know but it means when the engine moves the rad does so its not hitting off each other not ideal but best I can come up with at the moment

Did you manage to get them pics up mate? mines prepped now and ready to paint! obiously I would like to get any holes for the wiring drilled before I do that! ;)

joey17
13-10-12, 08:27 PM
Which ones u wanting pal? I drilled 2 either side of the heater blower motor going into the car, then one just above the indicator on passenger side behind the wing so I could run lights loom out there and drilled a hole at the end of the slam panel so I could hide wires under the slam panel

hotrod
15-10-12, 09:53 PM
Was after knowing how you got the wires from beside the heater motor into the engine bay ( wires from the battery to the starter and the main engine harness to the inside where the ecu is.)? Did you just drill straight through the firewall panel either side of the heater motor or did you have a better plan than that? lol

Off the road now as the tax has ran out but still loads to do for getting it ready for the shows next year, ill get photos up of everything I do, dash is currently bak out aswell as pedals and steering column all so I can tidy my wiring up more, trying to get some teardrops off a mate or even paint mint unsure what to do yet and then get digi dash back in and finish off under the bonnet, then hopefully get a few bits touched up off my painter after Christmas!!
When's and where is the first show of the year as I plan to rack the miles up in this

Looks sweet mate, would like some more info on how you mounted the cooler without it showing and cutting the front panel.

Looking good tho mate

Very impressive hiding the cooler that well. looks great.

joey17
14-12-12, 12:57 PM
The way I've hidden the cooler behind the bumper is with a one piece front bumper with the bumper bar taken out and trimmed the back of the grill and bumper so that the cooler sits in the back of the bumper and the bumper can go all the way on

Had a half a day on the nova again today. My mate turned up in his xe nova which is the engine out of mine. And I tried my digi dash in his car and it was all working so plugged it back in and got rev counter working in my car then I gave it a polish to keep it shiny. Some piks anyway

Do you guys have any stands at shows this year? And what are the requirements for getting on them? Thinking of going to the fast show, Pvs, USC, and billing this year

Mazz
15-12-12, 10:07 PM
The only requirement is the be a club member which is a tenner, then you'll get all the info for the shows. Obviously you still have to pay for show entry, but stand pass' are free. The club is normally at Billing and PVS, not sure on the other 2 though..

joey17
15-12-12, 10:13 PM
Yeah ill probs become a member, and yeah Thanks for the info mate

Does the rev counter on the dash not work?

joey17
28-12-12, 11:32 PM
Yeah, u can see it grafting in one of the piks, when it had the redtop in I didn't use a digi dash I just left the standard clocks in so I bought that rev counter then and seen as I had it still I thought I might aswell fit it, seems a bit pointless I know but it was there doing nothing so might aswell fill a hole with it mate

I really like this. I like how you've hidden the wiring etc.
The interior is cool too, it's different. Keep up the good work and keep us updated

joey17
29-12-12, 12:15 AM
Thanks! Yeah I try to take piks but always forget during piks, the thing with this is I've done everything myself well apart from paint it.

29-12-12, 12:19 AM
Yeah mate, that's what's good about it. Another built not bought, in a way it's insperational. It will be good to see in the flesh next year.

joey17
29-12-12, 12:23 AM
Yeah can't wait to drive it mate makes it all worthwhile, and the fact it's built on a pretty decent budget aswel I don't think the car owes me 2 grand yet and that's inc the 500£ wheels

31-12-12, 12:49 AM
When I put a digi dash in my old mk1 I cut the shape of the speedo out the dash so the bottom sat behind the lip and fitted tight all round, I had to alter the heater duct to get the digi dash in place

Wel should get MOT on it this week, ordered some new number plates which came so I got them fitted. All lights are working. Also I've bought some irmscher softstars with 40 profile tyres in original silver so they should smarten it up a bit, the steelies are forsale aswell as a set of 5 cesaros if anyone is interested

Thanks joe

I done it with no filler ,fibreglass or paint but you have to be precise when cutting. If I still had it now I would flock the dash :thumb:

joey17
02-01-13, 10:25 AM
Yeah I didn't really have a precise cutting tool that I could use so that is how I'm going to have to do it, if I do it again il take more care, thanks buddy

Just bought some window surrounds and I'm I sure on weather to fit them or not what do people think? Also spoke to a painter about getting my bumpers untextured and painted either anthracite or a similar grey? I think it wil be good as it will tidy the bumpers up as there looking a bit old. Any ideas what I should do, thanks joe
