Taking the head off yesterday and 1 bolt snapped inside the block. How do you remove these or who can do it?
Also now as it may take longer to get the 1300 in the car I was looking at putting the 4 branch on the 1200 along with the 32/34 dmtl. Will this benefit the engine and performance or do more damage than good? It seems the head has been done before on the 1200 as it has different headbolts but when it was done I'm not sure.

Any help and advice would be great
Richard

Is any of the bolt sticking out the face of the block?

If any of the bolt is still sticking out, you could weld a nut to it so you can remove it.

To be honest i only got the cam carrier to come off. I was banging at the head with a rubber mallet but wouldnt move so can't see how far down it is. Looking at half the bolt? Don't have any weld equipment so not an option for me

If the bolt head has snapped off you should be able to remove the head, might just be tight on the dowels?? Try and tap it upwards. Then you can assess if there's any sticking out the block.

If welding is not an option then you may be lucky enough to get 2 nuts on. Threadlock the top one on and/or hammer the end of the stud over it to lock it on then wind it out with the lower nut. Alternatively a set of stilsons on the stud if you cant get 2 nuts on and wind it out.

But of course there is a reason it snapped in the first place, this may make removal even harder as it could be cross threaded when fitted.

once snapped, the pressure is off the bolt, & it should be loose. if it is sticking out, then grips will be fine. if it is flush with the head, you might need to use a small centre punch and gently knock it round. if it is down in the block, which is highly unlikely, you might need to drill into the middle & use a stud extractor

once snapped, the pressure is off the bolt, & it should be loose.

Depending on the reason it snapped.

The bolt has only snapped due to either twisting down the length or a sideways pressure. If it twisted down the length and snapped then part of it would turn and part wouldnt, that initial resistance is likely to still be there.

If it broke due to sideways pressure then yes that is likely to have gone now.

no, it has snapped cos its a stretch bolt which has been stretched too much & was going to snap sooner or later, and on this occasion it was sooner.

Good point, didn't factor it being a stretch bolt in my assumption!

Cheers guys for all the info, will try and get up to the rents house this week and have a look.
Can anyone answer the 2nd part with the engine mods, if the bolt comes out ok it may not be an issue.

is the manifold a 4-2-1?? if so, then it will be a benefit to the 1.2, but the carb might be too much & simply dump fuel in, it might need rejetting
