why do i have to get the bottom pulleys to line up and then mark the cams?

surely i can just mark the cams and as long as the bottom end isn't moved (and the cams) it will all still time up, is it just a safe guard or am i missing something :wtf:

What engine? and what job are you doing? I always turn the engine back 90deg to level the pistons halfway down the bores when i do any work.

Do it the proper way, or you will balls it up.

You shouldnt have to mark anything on a standard engine.

Cams will instantly move when the belt is slackened though

Use a cam locking tool to lock both the cams and that saves a bit ****ing about. The cams iirc are 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock and the bottom pulley has a notch

tj, you can get a locking tool at most motor factors... don't piss about marking them up.

can the locking tool be used on a Xe aswell? i begrudge buying any thing more for this heap of **** corsa but if it can be used on the nova then i will get one

the 1.6 is a different one to the big block apparently. so you'll simply have to sell it afterwards on ebay

i never had a problem and i did the cambelt and waterpump on my x16xe last month, i marked the top pulleys up with tipex, blob on each cam and on the cam cover, same with the crank, the top cam pulleys did move but when putting the cambelt on i just moved the pulley back to the tipex mark.
