They're gettif harder as harder to find as yet isn't as much call for them due to the £1000 fine the police can slap on you for having no cat...

I payed £50 for my local exhaust place to weld a flange on the existing cat and make up a de-cat,

Believe it or not, yes. There isn't enough real come down our way so they just pick on motoring offences! They are always doing 'mini mot's ' on the side of the road, they check everything!

Then theres the MOT test to think about, not just the visual check of the cat being there, but the emissions test too.

Problem is, if they are dodgy enough to pass a car that shouldn't, can you even trust them with your car?

Is it pre 92 that you don't need a cat?

Exceptions aside, you only need a cat if you had one from factory; and its 01/08/92 onwards where the BET (cat test) is done.

when me and my brother were choon'ing his punto we were talking about de-cats but the two main problems with doing it were

1. After research the 1400 16v fiat engine doesn't respond very well to being decated
2. were to lazy to change it over once a year for its mot

solution 2nd hand sports cat job jobbed :)

I've never seen massive gains on small N/A engines, big fat turbo cars like decats though. Mine was like a different car with the decat.

If its an H or J reg GSi it won't need a cat but a K or mega rare L reg will for the MOT. I took the cat off my J reg 1.2i years ago and it made a big difference but when you only have 44bhp to start with 3-4 bhp more is noticeable lol

Should be a fail then if it came with a cat from factory, regardless of emissions :p
