Recently got sky + in our new house and watched this a few times, is it just me or is it a load of crap

The costing as the end is brilliant, he forgets the fact of petrol costs of bringing back a 3.0 v6 bentley 400 miles ,forgets to pay the mechanic " Edd " Spends £200 on HID kit and £500 for some front lights

He brought something back from italy the other week that broke down so someone came with a trailer to pick it up from italy and forgot to add the fuel or a 2.5 shogun doing over 1000 miles

so who watches it ?

Ive got sheet loads of them saved waiting to be watched. The early ones are funny how he makes £200 if he's lucky yet the later ones its more like £2000

i love watching it, especially the early ones, but in my opinion its totally scripted.

This one made me laugh :

Did a suzuki SJ welded a full rollcage to the chasis and fitted new leaf springs, took it for an mot and it failed on a rotten chasis, showed the picture and the chasis was worse than a novas, how they didnt notice after fitting new suspension is unreal. in the end they sold it as an offroader and lost £800, made me laugh

Its that crap you have to watch it until the end just to see the " profit "

i watched the best one yesterday. they borough a red mr2 that was rotten had a rattling engine and you started it with a screw driver lol. and the worst thing was they bought a new ignition barrel and boot lock but didn't buy the door ones so you had two keys.

Of course it's scripted! lol

If you can take it at face value - ie, some pretty good cars (sometimes!) and some reasonable advice from Ed, then its a good watch.

If you think its offers genuine advice for making a few quid on cars then you'll be bitterly disappointed!

Just watching the S2 Quattro episode....

What's funny about that? I know for a fact 79k range rovers have rattle canned bumpers, wheels and door shuts

hotrod

novadave24
21-07-12, 02:09 AM

ed is a pretty good mechanic...

mike couldn't sell water to a thirsty man

of course the shows are setup/scripted

every single discovery channel show in the last 5 years except the one about rebuilding ground zero has been adjusted to attempt to ramp up the tension

ok, the mark evans '......... is born' series are more realistic, and the tech stuff is worth listening to, but even he larks about with his mate for comic relief

21-07-12, 09:18 AM
lol dave

the came is 15's and 16s on the mondeos but o a cossie the 16s bt 8j wide not 6j as on the mondeo's :)

Just watched the morgan plus 4 and he sold it to a fellow trader! blamed it on the weather! lol

mowgli
21-07-12, 09:24 PM
billhooks... they got it from that morgan dealer, and then it was looked at by a mechanic from a dealer.... as in the same morgan dealer... it was blindingly obvious to me that it was done as a favour to fill in the series....

like the g wagon that they tarted up & couldn't shift... so they 'sold' it to some emailer from cyprus.. . yeah right....

The beetle one was my fave, buy cheap beetle, realise it's fooked, turn it into a beach buggy, couldn't sell it lol

hotrod

Sure I seen them do a VW van that they wrapped and couldn't sell so "Edd" bought it! lol

mowgli
21-07-12, 09:33 PM
this is what beats me about the show...

mike brewer is meant to be some seriously successful car dealer, yet he buys crap, and then his selling technique is not what i'd call professional, as in he lists the state it was in & what they'd done to it, then asks too much money for it..

a mate of mine had a classic beach buggy & when he sold it, thru a vw mag, an enormous fat bloke who couldn't even get into it came to view & bought it, he was a collector & had brought an assistant to test it for him..

why would you buy what is basically a professionally built kit car, when for about a grand less, you could get your own built???

hotrod
21-07-12, 09:36 PM
Some people just have too much money!

Welcome to the world of television.....

lol at you lot thinking it's real. It's a TV program, so it's completely scripted. When he goes to buy parts, they're already just by the counter/nearest shelf, they know what he wants and that the OBU is sat outside.

It's a program concept that works, even though it's not very real world.

Oh and Edds work is "free" as the concept is that "Joe Public" has bought a nail and done it up at home and sold it on at a profit!
