View Full Version : Nova dash loom confusion
I bought this Nova loom and I was told its from an early car (83). But I haven't seen anything like it before.
It doesn't have a starting/charging bit but there is a plug with thick red/black (starter), blue/white (alternator) and a black?

Also any idea what these are for.
This plug is next to passenger side headlight:

These 2 small plugs next to the heater motor plug:

I had the green and grey one on my car. It just wasn't connected to anything and taped to the top of the blower motor.

Green one next to the pass headlight would be for an ignition coil.
If I was trying to figure that out, I'd turn to the back of a Haynes manual and find the wiring diagrams for an '83 nova. Learning how to read the wiring diagrams is a bit tricky, but they are a wealth of information. Especially if you have to make up any wiring looms or additions in future.

The green and white next to the heater motor plug i would personally assume it to be the under bonnet light, the red and black one i can't tell where its coming from but i know on later models there is a black/yellow one with the same connector thats unused behind the engine which is ignition lived. the one at the bottom of your first post could well be the pin switch for the bonnet light.
The very first picture its almost like its designed to plug into an alternator

Grey/green is light circuit and that is the live supply for the underbonnet light
Red wire with the cylidrical plug is one of the supplies for the headlamp wash
To make the car start/charge I was going to cut that black plug off and soldier the wires colour to colour, but what do I do with the black wire?
Any ideas regarding the starting/charging?
I will have a x16xe engine fitted
