When a diesel is mot'd is it still only a visual check for emissions?
My cat has just split at box and was thinking of just buying a de cat pipe for it. It's booked in for mot next week.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Visual check is part of it but the emissions are checked with the engine revved to the governor

It's a smoke test, that's probably not a cat but a diesel particulate filter, it might produce more smoke but I doubt it'll be bad enough to pass, my old Nova TD used to smoke like a ******* and passed as they're not run under load, just left idling and then revved.

If the box is split it will fail on that

Not necessarily, mine has just passed with an exhaust leak

If it has a visible split in the box it should fail, well dependant on size

All depends on the tester mate as how bad he thinks the leak is and if it effects the emissions test and with regards to smoke it will only fail if the tester deems it to be likely to obscure the vision of other road users ( or mainly GATSOs lol )
