drop the text typing.
Navigon (either app if you are a pervert, or the real hardware if) is the only one I'd use. Satnav is the most irritating thing on the planet so for the Navigon to even get a suggestion means its good lol

Garmin or Tomtom. For me the phone apps are compromised. Small screen fiddly buttons when on the move etc.

i use an ancient navman, always found them nice and simple, not a fan of the tomtom interface, and the way it tells you eleventy million times about the next turn...
most of the time i use navfree on my iphone, its not faultless but its simple, clear and gets you to where you are going. and its FREE!!
I've got the TomTom app on my iPhone. It works just as good, if not better than my normal TomTom! I jailbroke my iPhone though so got it for free, fcuk paying £70+ for an app! lol

steer well clear of any and all RAC satnavs, they all suck harder then ummmmmmmmmmmm some thing that sucks hard and wont get me a infraction.
some of the navman stuff is quite reasonable, for a sat nav......or buy a decent map book, or print off the google map

Got an original tomtom one, does the job for the rare times I need it. Got built in sat nav in my other car and I use that all the time as it works so well plus so convenient I use it when I don't really need to!!
If I had to buy another would be a tomtom, how to you use it on your phone legally???

if you mean for tapping in addresses, then its just as bad to do it on a normal sat nav unit (handheld device)

whats the best apps to go for ?
thanks :)

I agree just as bad. However one is legal and one isn't!!

I've just downloaded Navigon and it looks really good, easy to use and stable. I haven't "used" it yet but it looks like it will work much better than the TomTom app. Cheers Stuart for mentioning it!

what are you getting at?
you do understand your not allowed to adjust either whill driving dont you and both shouldn't be on the windscreen, so you can use what you want as long as its set before driving about

It can be on the screen so long as not in the drivers view or a distraction ie out of swept area.
There is also no direct law against using a sat nav whilst driving, however you may be charged with driving without due care and attention but so slim as it would never stand up in a court.
Touch a mobile phone whilst driving and your breaking the law, period!

Show me the law that says you can't touch a sat nav whilst moving please.
Will pass an mot so long as out of swept area as I said, ie right down in bottom right for example. Do you remove your tax disc for an mot?

comes under the same law as mobile phones, you can be done for 'due care and attention', if you want to get technical about it touching any electronic device be it phone, satnav, radio they can all land you with the same fines points and what ever else they want to give you

not a argument its a discussion.
garmins are easier to use and understand, tomtoms are abit annoying

I am afraid turbo jolt you are wrong.
Read highway code rules 149 and 150 it clearly defines the use of a hand held mobile phone whilst driving is illegal and clearly states the use of sat navs is legal.
I am not disagreeing with your logic that they are the both the same level of distraction. But in cases like this you really need to base your arguments on fact and the law not your view of a situation

Pie I use Navigon on my iPhone and have had it since they first launched it... it's mile better since the first launch. If you've taken a wrong turning it re tracks you straight away.
One thing to get is a phone charger though as the app saps battery pretty quickly, I also have mine plugged into the aux port on my headunit so you can have the sound through your speakers... when I've got music also playing on my iPhone the sound of the Navigon fades in/out ;)

I did have the tomtom one up until 6 months ago when i killed it, but i'd had it since satnavs became mainstream around 8-10 years and well worth the £200 i paid for it at the time.
After borrowing a friends satnav i bought a Garmin which is really good, unless you set it to use less fuel, then it takes you down as many country lanes as it can, clearly using more fuel and the amount of times i've taken the wrong turn because of way the maps are set out is unreal, personally if you can handle the tomtom telling you a million times which way to go, i'd get that
mrs has a crappy garmin which is actually never done any wrong. i use google nav on android, again always does the job.

I myself have an ifail, and as such have downloaded the NavFree app, it's basic, it's to the point and it works. Battery ain't good anyways so usage on it is irrelevant.
