View Full Version : BROD's mk1 nova project
Hi everyone, im pretty new around here. My names Brad im 16 and im from the south wales area. Ive been meaning to put this up for a while now been been busy with work and the like!...back in october of 2011 i bought a 1983 mk1 fiesta (im a massive ford fan but please dont attack lol ) which is a cat c write off, i planned on repairing it in time for my 17th this coming november but after finally getting her in the garage and stripping her down, i realised with the lack of time and at the time a lack of funds, it just wasnt going to happen!! So i got onto my mate telling him i wanted to buy his nova. Luckily he had his eyes on a beemer and a few weeks later she was mine! :D
Im having trouble with photo sizes at the moment but ill get some pics up as soon as i can! my plans are a full respray in white again. Ive just picked up a rear arch and an mpi tank from a later 1.2 injection model. ohh and also got a gearlinkage on the way as mine is naffed! and would love to rose joint it! other plans are gaz coilover and basically a tarmac rally setup suspension wise. Im removing the 20ne this weekend if things go to plan as some numpty stone chipped the engine bay! also im going to get any welding done before i paint her! engine bay included! one other thing. I did pick up some slabs last week in black but im planning on painting them anthracite!
Welcoms mate,be good to see some pics once your sorted
Iya lads, just thought id get some pictures up of my nova. Sorry if they are really small! i dont understand why they have come out like it again :wtf: but anyway

and i also picked up some slabs complete with centre caps for £100 quid, ill get round to painting them once ive completed the body work (if there is such a thing as completed!?) im thinking anthracite but whats your opinion?

i also picked up a ns rear arch as mines on its way. The plans now are to remove the engine tomorow and make a start on removing the horrible stonechip from the engine bay!! once thats done (probably 2015 :wtf: ) ill get the arch fitted and try to sort out whatever welding needs doing but first i need to buy a new mig as mine has seen better days and the wire feed isnt exactly smooth! :tard: Then the plan is a full respray! paint the slabs, service the brakes all round, fit a set of gaz coilovers and i also have my eye on an seh for her! ill keep you all informed :) cheers for reading :thumb:

I picked up craig smiths 20seh, its a decent spec engine with a Kent ast15 cam, Kent vernier pulley, ported and polished head running 38mm mikuni bike carbs and a magnex 4 branch. Made 138bhp on the dyno and a very good torque figure and curve!

I decided to give the engine a tidy up and a lick of paint

Ive not yet finished tidying up the engine, im also going to replace the aux and timing belt and do the waterpump while the engine is out! I will also service it as its been standing for a while.
Another thing ive done is removed 90% of the nast stonechip from the engine bay which has revealed what i was searching for! a decent amount of rot but not the worst bay ive seen. Still plenty of work to keep me busy though!

http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac104/brodsterxx/nova63.jpg
Also after seeing both sides cracked like so i removed the n/s wing
http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac104/brodsterxx/nova65.jpg
and on further inspection
http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac104/brodsterxx/nova67.jpg
http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac104/brodsterxx/nova70.jpg
So i cut it all out
http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac104/brodsterxx/nova81.jpg
and made a start on making up fresh metal.

Ive had enough of my cheap sip mig so ill get a brand new machine ordered within the next week, im aiming to get all of the welding finished on the engine bay and have the bay in primer and hopefully painted within the next month, then ill get the new engine finished and back in and ill have to spend some time wiring it in and plumbing in the new pump etc. Then i will get the new arch on and get it to my mates workshop where i can put it on the 2 post so i can clean up some of the more dodgey bits on the underside then it will be time for a full exterior respray. Ill update when ive got some news, any feedback etc. would be great :) cheers!

I didn't have a clue how cars worked at 16, so I'm impressed that your capable of doing so much already.
