View Full Version : Engine removal tips?
Hi lads, planning on removing my 20ne this weekend as ive had enough of the engine bay! since some numpty painted it with stonechip! and im starting to see orange patches seep through! Apart from labelling, taking plenty of pics etc. is there any hints and tips you can give me on removing a 20ne from my mk1? certain sequence to removal etc.? May i add im only 16 and the only engine ive removed before was in my mk1 fiesta lol which i caveman technology compared to this injection stuff!
any advice would be great!!
Brad.
remove the front wheels
lower the car onto the ground.
undo the bolts for the mounts, and suspension, and every pipe & wire, having labelled them, then lift the car up, leaving the engine on the ground.

i lowered the car so the engine was sitting on some old tyres underneath, undone it all and lifted the car up pulled the old engine and box out
job jobbed
Easiest way I find is jack the car up just so the wheels are just of the ground disconnect everything including shafts etc
Put a tyre under the engine and unbolt the engine on to that
Lift the front of the car with the lift or a couple string lads
Slide the engine out easy as pie

I like that idea of putting chains round the engine and a tree and reversing at speed, lol
Cheers all! Im abit nervous since ive never removed an engine this complicated hahaa, doing it on my own aswell so that doesnt help! i dont suppose theres any knowledgeable guys in the south wales area willing to lend a hand? im sure ill figure it out somehow either way, i do have a trolley jack, axle stands and an engine crane to help me along

lol
engine out the bottom is easiest. just make sure you undo all pipes/cables
Im pretty confident in removing it, fitting it back in is another story :D
I get car on axle stands bottom arms and tie rods off, shafts out, exhaust off, then water pipes off, i would disconnect the ecu and leave all the wiring on the engine, clutch cable, throttle cable, speedo cable, exhaust off. Mounts i do last and i get a trolley jack on a piece of wood take rear box mount off 1st then box front mount then engine mount last and loose the jack down till its stable then pull jack out engine wth box onto floor then jack 1 side of the car up i usually use the front of the chassis rails on my Nova and drag the fecker out Job done!
Cheers all! I'm looking for an seh if anyone has one btw

take the alternator off, actually, its your first time, take all the ancillaries off, you'll learn as you go along what you can leave on
Am i better off removing the inlet etc.? or is there enough room to get it out without removing?
