Been looking into getting a private plate for my M3 for a while now and can't find anything at sensible money that means anything to me! Well legally at least!

So should I just:

A- forget about it
B- get something and space it illegally
C- just get M3 ... for £255 and leave it on the car like a modification

Queue all the varied responses lol

well, if you go for the m3 ___ reg, everyone will assume its just a 318 anyway.... lol

its your money & your choice... if you want one, go & get one

Hmmm hadn't thought of people thinking I am trying to make it something it isn't, even though real deal

Think something relevant to me is the way to go!

Depends tbh, £225 isn't much really, however a personal one is always nicer.

If I hadn't already got one, I'd have snapped up C4VVG (with some spacing : CAV V6) for my........Cav V6 :)

EDIT : Its available too!

Id just leave it be, its got the M3 badge on it, so why do you need it to say M3 on the plate, if someone thinks its yet another 318/316, then just boot it and they will soon know lol

Just get a personal plate and if people don't believe it's an m3 then you've got a sleeper lol

Don't bother, save your money. I've had umpteen personal plates over the years, they cost a lot to buy when you eventually find one you want, but you can rarely sell them again when you need to (and certainly not for decent money).

You should sell your plate to someone with a Subaru or Evo etc as it ends in WRC and buy another plate associated to you for FREE!

Liam, that is the original plate and is not transferable! Or I would have! My last M3 had RX52 EVO on it lol

I have found the plate going to get, M3 NHX

Prob going to go with silver and black rear plate and no front plate  and yes I know that is illegal!!!

You should be able to sell/remove the original plate? The only way you cannot is if DVLA issue a number plate other than the original.

My dad bought a 1971 Land Rover Lightweight but was used by the MOD and was decomissioned then registered for civilian use in 1984 so was put on an A or B reg.

He went down to the DVLA office to get it put on historic road tax and an age related plate was offered (early J reg). As DVLA issued this new plate, on the bottom of the log book in special information it says that the plate cannot be transferred like in the picture below.

Just get a generic M3 plate, my Audi came with this plate, IMO it looks a lot better than X446 ULS which was the plate it was first issued with.

If I wanted a PP it would cost me thousands as ALLAN plates cost a fcuking fortune

Most original plates are not transferable. It says it on the v5 and it is the original plate from new

Spot on bazil, I am getting the plate for looks. Not to make money or keep it will just stay on the car. That one is £255 so cheapest from DVLA. The NHX works for me as my nickname is Nix

Just had a word with my dad and the reason both your BM's have/had plates that cannot be transfered is because they have previously had private plates on them.

When you buy a car the plate is yours and can be transfered.
When you put a private plate on a car the original plate is then owned by DVLA.
When you remove the private plate and put the original plate back on the car it is non-transferable as it has been owned by DVLA.

Ahh that explains why my mk4 Astra is none transferable!

You may be correct there Liam. They did both have other plates on them. I checked all my other v5s and they don't say it.

However your never 'own' a plate, you are only ever renting them from the DVLA, whether new or not :thumb:
