the sr with 40s should do it, mine kept up with my mates standard gsi. But if you both for 40s the sri would be better

just noticied i made a mistake with the opions am knackerd have changed them now tiredness can kill take a break .
I once had an encounter with a guy who reconed his SRi was the quickest nova around.
Needles to say I wiped the floor with him!
I had 40's , a ported 1.4 head with larger inlet valves, 270deg cam and 4branch/system.

I wanna know who voted for the SRI, come on own up!

mc seen as u look to know ur stuff with 1.4 engines what would u advise for me?? i have a 1.4 (2mm overbore) with webber 32/34 with k&n standard head, scorpion backbox...... would u advise the fitting of a 1.2 head and 1.3 inlet i have lieing round?? shouwl have the head 'worked' first?.. also what about creating a closed intake with the in pipe being out of the bumper?.... your thoughts?

also what about creating a closed intake with the in pipe being out of the bumper?
As in a ram air system??
My CBR has that and makes a lot of difference.
ste the 1.2 head will be beter, even if you gonna get it worked as u cantr do much on the 1.4;s cuz oif the crapy placed water galleries.
the closed pipe should help once you get the car rolling?
Ram air is a tricky one, gotta make sure that the benefits outweigh the disruption to aerodynamics! Works on bikes, not so hot on cars.
I'd personally fit a k&N fed by a bonnet vent with cold air. Shorter route. You'll find the long closed intake will just restrict.
Yes use the 1.2 head and 1.3 manifold, but make sure you match the manifold to the 32/34 or its a waste of time.
I thought you were up on your engines too ste?

i am i'm just makeing the thread more intersting
the k&n looks restrictive due to the top plate? maybe a ramair with a scoop and a skirt under the bonnet to almost seal the filter to the vent?
if the ram is restrictive how about if the pipe was like 6" across? with 2 feeds maybe one from each side of the bay into a home made fiberglass collector above the carb?
also will the 1.4 mainfold match to the 1.2 head?
now this is an air box lol

the two fook off big black boxes either side, fed by two tubes that incorporate the restrictors

T40's will up the bhp to around 90 on the sr i would say maybe more.

is anyone here going to a RWYB day in August at Pod? i might go up and see what my pun 1200 on twin choke + 4-2-1 manifold can manage.

have been unable 2 get hold of my mate with sr on 40s so have been un able 2 find out will let you know out come as soon as i do. I had my 1.4sr on twin 40s set up on rolling road and was only 76bhp 6 more than standard and an sri is suppost 2 b 80bhp standard so think it will b close. thanks 2 the person that thinks my car will win.
I'd say that those 40's were not set up properly.
I know I had more done to my engine, but I had 130bhp on one roller and 125bhp on another.
Was the 76bhp at the wheels? That would make it more like 90bhp.
MC
ye 7bhp sounds more like what ud get from 32/34 not 40's!!
Yes there is something wrong there, twin 40's will provided many more than 7 horses extra.

steve
fit the 1.2 head and 1300 inlet
like mike said open out the inlet to accept the weber adapter plate.
ive got mine ready for fitting , just need the time to strip it all down and do it.
i ported the head matched the gasket faces up and opened out the inlet to suit the weber. i hope to find about 10bhp
the sr system matches up to the 1200 head fine, iirc all small blocks use the same exhaust gasket anyway.
i got some pics if anyones interested

Yes it matches fine. i have an sr inlet manifold and sr exhaust and they are both the same. its only the 1.4 head thts diff.
the 1.2 ports are exactly the same, just that the 1.2 raises the compression more than the 1.3
