View Full Version : Can anyone help?
Can anyone help please. I have a 1300 running twin fourty Webbers and the engine seems to be getting really hot. You can't put your hand on the rocker cover it's that hot. The fan kicks in like it should I can't remember if they ran hot its been a long time since I've driven it. Can anyone help.
Dont you have a temp gauge?? Rocker covers do get hot! lol
Yes the one that's in dash clocks and thats ok sitting under half and the rocker cover is so hot and the rad top hose is red hot

Unless the rad fan is coming on really quickly, then it sounds pretty normal to me. Perhaps your coolant level is out, too much water in it would make it get hotter than it should.
Haha no mate my hands are not sensitive and all the water levels are spot on

If your temperature reading is okay and the water level is also okay then I wouldn't fret about it, they do get hot as the rocker covers are metal and the hot oil inside the engine goes to the top of the engine. ;)
Yeah, they get toasty, you can't comfortably touch my XE cam cover after a drive
It gets red hot after 5 mins just on tick over its doing my head in I just want to drive it

It's supposed to get hot! I'd be more worried if it was cold tbh.
What oil have you got in it?
I dunno Southe if it's getting red hot there may be a problem!

If its glowing like that then yes it could be an issue, anyone got some mashmellows lol
No it's not quite that hot!! Can't remember what oil I put in it though. It's been a long time since I've been able to drive it so can't remember if it's meant to be this hot or if I'm just being paronoid

time to make him paranoid, maybe your carbs need resetting as they might be running a little lean lol
Just take it for a drive - its going to get hotter on idle anyway!
If its running lean (thats the only reason it would be getting really hot) then the plugs would tell you that!
If it was a water/coolent issue - it would boil over.
