1.2i mod gains?

I have recently purchased a 1.2i and after speaking to a guy with some 'experience' with nova's... He told me i could put a 1.6 Gsi cam and the throttle body of a 1.8 8v astra or something with that engine. also i 4-2-1 manifold and they are quite quick..

Is this worth doing or just getting a bigger engine?

depends on age/driving experience for insurance purposes and most importantly the size of your wallet, whats your budget?

Insurance isn't an issue and I should hope driving experience isn't either! :) I've not really gave myself a buget, just the what ever it costs frame of mind. If its not gonna cost too much more is it pretty pointless spending on the 1.2

ok thats cool, well a c16se will give you quite alot of un in standard form and is a relatively cheap upgrade

I have recently bought a 1.2i, 4 speed!!

I purchased for it -
Gsi cam
Gsi/sri inlet manifold
Sr 4-2-1 manifold
Sr full system with scorpion back box

What throttle body will I need? Maybe the one of the cavalier 1.8 8v?
Is an f13 box a must?

And anybody ideas of what kinda gains I should get? Thanks!

the gsi cam will fit, but i'm not even sure if the inlet will match up..

check the how to guide in the articles section..

you really don't need a cavalier gearbox, you need a f13cr with a lower diff, maybe a 4.18:1, the f13cr is a nova/corsa box & the 4.18 diff is the sr option in the f10 box.

as burgo said, what management are you planning to run?

edit.. as for gains, gsi cam & new chimney, maybe 4-5hp at the top end

I have the a gsi loom and ecu on the way with the inlet and cam etc, I know someone who has fit the inlet before so it does fit :)

the inlet will bolt on, but isn't the 1.2i a square port engine? and the gsi is a round port engine, so it won't actually gain anything

The 1.6 ecu you massively over fuel the 1.2. So far your heading the right way for less power if it runs at all

whill your at it, put a 1600 bottom end on it aswell

For all the pissing about with bits and pieces and then declaring it, you might aswell fit a whole 16se

also, remember to swap your in tank fuel pump for a suitable mpi one. An astra mk3 one fits with the intake pipe shortened a touch.

If you fitted a 1.6, you'd need an f13 box too, as your box won't fit to it.

sorry for posting in the wrong section, thanks for the feedback it is after all an experiment really.. but my friend ran a very similar set-up a few years back with a 1.8 throttle body and it ran fine!

face facts, you can put makeup on a pig & its still a pig...

you can tune a 1.2i and make it produce 60hp, and its still slower than all the other cars.....

start with a bigger engine, and then improve it, a 1.4spi is a massive improvement & will fit straight in

I personally wouldn't bother with a 1.4 spi, hardly much improvement on the 1.2 spi. Go for a 1.4 mpi. :)

i was thinking of easy of conversion. as in no new pump or pipes, etc
