My gsi has started 'holding onto its revs'. Idle returns to below 1000 rpm, but sometime this takes 3 secs, sometimes 30 secs. It does it while driving, acting a bit like cruise control at 2,000 rpm:confused:.

Any ideas?

Hello Mowgli,
whats the 'cts', and wheres the ICV hidden. Vac pipes seem good, but could do with replacing due to age. Do you live in Hinckley? I live in E/Shilton

is it a gsi with a E16se or C16se engine fitted?
the inlet manifolds arent the same and C16se
doesnt have a air flow meter.

could be the idle air control valve
or a air leak on or around the inlet manifold?

I've been meaning to ask...how to I know if I've got an E16 or C16 engine? Wheres the IAC valve on these engines? Looks rather different under the bonnet to the 16v ecotecs I used to tinker with!

has it got its original 1.6 8 valve engine?
what plate or year is it?

gsi's with a E16se engine were approx H reg to K reg, 1990 to 1992
and gsi's with a C16se engine were approx K reg to L reg, 1992 to 1993

the E16se has a dizzy and a large air flow meter on the air box
and the C16se has a coil pack and NO air flow meter on the air box

hope this helps

This is the E16

Note it has the Bosch AFM on the airbox and dizzy with coil.

Wheres the IAC hidden on the E16 engine?
Mines hasn't got 2 brake fluid reservoirs like the pic above either?

To adjust the idle speed on the e16se there is a screw on the throttle body
the e16se doesnt have a iac valve as such

the CTS is the coolant temp sensor for the ecu, its usually under the dizzy. The icv is bolted to the cam carrier & has 2 rubber hoses & a block connector going to it. The haynes shows how to test it.

Yes i live in hinckley, just off the cov rd.
