If the split is before the throttle body then it will have no effect. have you checked all your vacuum pipes for splits?

check the flexi pipe too.

if its a gte engine, and split after the air flow meter will **** things up, but 3k rpm, thats going to be one big air leak :(

Sometimes as a while it goes back to about 1000rpm and then goes ba k to 30000rpm

I don't know if this is any help but twice my 1.2i did this, it actually idled at 5000rpm one night driving home in the dark and rain. It was right through the city centre, a nightmare. I got home switched it off, slammed the door and went inside the house. Next day it was fine but it did the same thing a few days later. I took off the throttle linkage/injector and all the sensors i could see in the throttle body etc.

Cleaned it all, made sure the throttle was free and not sticky and put it all back together. I don't know which bit it was that went mental and I don't know if it is relevant to your engine at all so maybe not much help?
