Well I had a nice start to my day today.

At 5:30am this nice yellow thing got delivered in readiness for a bit of concrete removal action . Probably woke the whole street up ....

The pavers rocked up at 8am on the dot and by the time I got home at 5:45pm I was left with this......

Looks like a scene from the moon landings at the moment with all the grey hardcore down !

At least I won't have to mow the front lawn any more !!! :):):)

Fingers crossed they are finished by Billing cos the Nova is in the garage and no drive!

joff... 1 day to wacker & concrete in the edgings.
1, maybe 2 days to lay & cut in the edges..

seriously, block paving is great for speed..

try to get a few dozen spare pavers for when the dreaded oil leak gets on them..

joff, make sure they do a decent job fixing that drain top.. make sure they don't just bag it & bang some cement over it, which happens often, you need to get at it for maintenance..

I was thinking a extra high roof line so I can get a 2 post ramp in!!! Can't see the wife going with that one!

i worked with landscape gardeners for nearly 5 years and we only ever had one block paving job we could get a digger into,
once all the ground is dug out and type 1 is in and wackered it flys down, then it rains and rains and rains so you had to wait ages to go back and brush all the kiln dried sand in lol

looks the nuts when its all done tho

Billy bonus, they've managed to get rid of the lip at the bottom of the drive that my nova bumper would catch, which meant I needed to use ramps to get off the drive every time!

Not too sure how the soak away will work at the moment as there is only a 6" trench at one side .... time will tell !

Lovely house, drive way looks very nice.

so they are putting the aco channel across the end of the drive, and 'soaking' it into the border???
with that size area, you'd need about a 2m3 soakaway chamber (its made from plastic things that look like pop crates, wrapped in woven membrane & surrounded by pea gravel...

as usual, what they have fitted won't actually soak away anything at all.. it'd be better not to have one & just pave it to the path, and let the street drain take it..

i see they decided to ignore the broken drain top, even though you can get replacements really cheap. how do they think the grid will fit...

sorry to rant on like this, but being in the groundworks trade for as many years as i was, still makes me mad to see the last couple percent of a job get bodged like that..

You're right - I've told them to take out the broken drains and sort it proper which they are doing tomorrow !

The drain gulley is now a requirement by our local authority - you can't have a drive draining onto an adopted road up here. Apparently they are putting in a large hole in the bottom of the bed on the right hand side to put the cages in.

The main water feed to the house is here so they are digging it by hand rather than using the JCB.

thank god they are doing it.

i quoted a mate to do his driveway a couple of years ago & included altering his air bricks & gulley tops..

the bloke who got the job was about £20 cheaper, fitted an aco on the path side, even though the drive drained towards the house, and left the airbricks..

last year, i helped my mate replace the floorboards & joists in his front room......then altered his airbricks..

but this mate is the tightest bloke on the planet.

joff, my brother would be going proper loopy now... he has a really big thing about running the pavers straight actoss the drive opening, and losing the cuts near the house... i've seen him make a bloke move 100+m2 of pavers cos he didn't put them down right... me, i fit them how they go best, the lads laying them are doing fine imho

We had a chat about this and agreed to work off the straight edge at the front of the garage as a point of reference. Where the rest of the blocks end up at the edges doesn't really bother me as long as its neat & tidy.

We agreed that 90 degrees would the option as all the other neighbours have a 45 degree pattern. Apparently its stronger that way round when going down a slope.

What do I know .... I just invest peoples money !

Apparently it measured up at 88 square metres of blocks which is quite a lot !

50 to a square metre & you buy pavers by the m2 but also add 5% for cuts, more if its complicated
