View Full Version : Do i have to turret the rear to fit gaz coilovers?
Hi lads, im planning on buying a set of gaz coilovers towards the end of this year to get my 1990 nova sitting and handling right. I thought they were a straight fit but a mate has told me you need to turret the rear?can anyone shed any light on this?
they fit some novas but you might have to help them fit with a hammer with some.
as john said.
make sure you sit it back on the floor before altering with a hammer as they spread once dropped and do have clearance.
Cheers both, when you say they may need a little help with a hammer, where do you mean?
he means on the inner arch under where the top mounting point is
the spring can sometimes catch the inner arch so a little bashing may be needed
Normally is the chassis leg
is it i though it was the other bit?
iirc shouldnt the rear beem be modded " as in have a bracket/brace welded on to?
You don't have to but it's adviseable
My old ones only caught over heavy bumps when the spring compressed. It caught the inner arch, easily sorted with a rubber mallet.

I fitted the rear gaz coilovers and mine caught at the bottom where the chassis leg sticks out slightly.
I just cut this small section out and welded a plate back in, some people did suggest the hammer route but then the inside doesn't look very nice after wards.
Thanks for explaining everyone! pretty simple procedure to get them to fit then by the sound of things, cheers.
