Ive searched through my old threads but cant find the original project

Its a 1983 Nova 1.0 3 Door in burnt orange/copper.
I bought this from someone in Liverpool about 5 or 6 years ago!

It wasnt bought for any specific intentions, purely because it was an early one and was structurally sound.

It was nothing pretty, here it is parked next to my pink nova back in 2007 pretty much as i got it

and again next to an old silk violet nova i had (rip)

I didnt really do much to the car, its mostly been kept in dry storage. But at one point it did have Tigra 15" 5 Spokes, Lowered and a mk1 SR Front End

Early in 2010, i decided i was going to this that and the other to it, but decided to store it for a while

Anyway. after completing H16VTB recently. Ive decided to build this Nova up using as many of the spare parts ive collected over the years!

They include, various interiors, Rear Roll Cage, The wheels prev pictured, SR Bumpers, GSi spoiler, GSi engine, Dellorto Twin 40s etc etc etc

So to bring us up to date, i dragged the GSi engine out of the back of my shed and got it stripped down!

Along with the engine i had lots of rebuild bits from when it was in the silk violet GSi, and it had a bit of a knock!

Engine swiftly dismantled

Nova GSi Head ports

I carefully ground these to suit an SR inlet gasket

All done
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/bdb2c884.jpg

It followed with a purchase of a new but unused courtney (?) 4 branch
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/b6aadc26.jpg

I got the block painted up
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/6cb057d4.jpg

Along with the sump
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/f468b0bb.jpg

The crank has gone off for a polish, i have a full set of gaskets, bottom end bearings, piston rings, altenator, water pump, belts etc ready to put it all back together once i paint the head and cam box silver

As a hint of whats to come for the cars exterior paint, i did the rocker cover

...Audi Sprint Blue

Ive sourced a new 14NV distributor but struggling to source a coil. i have a 2.0 8v mpi cav coil, is there any thing i can do to use this? looks identical but no module underneath it

Got on with some more work today. It is new ready to go to my friend for some welding in the morning.

There are lots of very early mk1 parts which wont make it back on this car. I would like to sell them as maybe a job lot to someone, but take a look through the pics of what i have removed so far

First move of the day was to get it out of storage. a new battery and some fuel, and she started. this car has never failed me in that respect

Heres the welding that needs doing, its very clean aside these parts

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/7e47b3a8.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/b491428a.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/fcc58769.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/81f3ad5c.jpg

So i then got to work removing the tailgate, bonnet, bumpers etc. Then onto the inside. I removed the seats, and lifted all the carpets. I then removed all the black tar stuff and cleaned it all up
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/b3fac161.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/1104329b.jpg

A few bits are now removed and available are as follows..
Boot carpet, parcel shelf supports and uncut parcel shelf
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/6ec4c020.jpg

Front and rear carpets
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/caee1567.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/64f8dc64.jpg

mk1 front plastic lower trims
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/f46ebb4a.jpg

mk1 rear wiper of any value to anyone?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/dd15f5ae.jpg

also removed this. its a radiator surround in excellent complete condition
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/65bcf01a.jpg

While the car is away being welded, I have now got the chance to put the new engine together now that my crank is back from being polished. Pictured with new gm bearings
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/5da3052a.jpg

I have also sourced a 14nv coil finally. All i need to make it run now is a fuel pump and regulator.

I need a mk1 drivers side front wing

I knew I had two brand new mk1 wings in stock. But sods law ones a drivers side mk1 saloon and the other a mk1 hatch passenger side! Gutted. So if anyone wants to swap a mint or new gm drivers wing for either of these please let me know ASAP. I want to be painting the car either this weekend or next. Thanks

A part of me feels a little sad that this won't stay an original Y reg but I know you'll make it look cracking so I'll let you off lol

25-06-12, 08:58 PM
haha, id love to spend the money sourcing snow plough bumpers and rare early mk1 extras. but this is not for the purists. im trying to build this from my spare parts stash. its been sat around too long waiting for something to happen. its going to be pretty simple and tidy hopefully.

All I can say is make the oldest Nova on the site that little bit special then as one day the Nova you own would in standard form be worth a damn site more than you think ;)

elgan
25-06-12, 09:59 PM
i keep reading that statement and i dont get it? lol

ive got 3 novas, my red one has been neglected a long time. this build along with H 16V TB will both be sold once complete.and the red one finished for its 10 year anniversary next year would be nice. but again unlikely. ive bought an Opel GT and ive got a Rover P6 V8 around my neck too.

The engine is now rebuilt. Lots of new parts

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v514/elg4n/aecd2d4e.jpg

I also had the alternator top adjuster extended as pictured.

I have got a small list of things i can do without the car back which will probably have to now wait until after billing
