speedo cable snapped

Speedo cable snapped yesterday, got a new one today and fitted it.

It makes a very loud clicking noise the faster i go, its 100% the speedo cable i've re-routed in 3 times and made sure theres no bends ect.

My old man said to strip it down an grease the actual speedo wire and put it back together.

any tips

Oil the cable and grease the clock drive.
