Are early saloon tailgate locks the same as early hatch ones ?

As title, basically is there any difference between the two ?

I have the chance to buy a new lock set but its for a early mk1 saloon, need to know it fits or not :)

No, the Saloon locks are different, they have a straight rod permanently attached that goes straight back, hatch ones have a plastic arm that goes to the side.

Can you not build the tumblers from the saloon boot into your existing lock?
