View Full Version : Opel Corsa Sprint R replica
Well i bought this a wee while ago
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii258/Graememurdoch/IMG-20120229-00272.jpg
With the intention of turning it into a replica of this
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii258/Graememurdoch/Sprint20R.jpg
Is a standard one owner, 61k mile Nova Swing to start with, which is what the Sprint is based on. Just a wee project untill i ever finish my Sport project.

Good to know mate, havent got the injection system yet but on the look out.
Right so thats about me up to date, tomorrow though is the big day for the decals  Got a local company going to reproduce them, nervous aint the word.
Mates dropping the car off at 9am and im picking it up at 5pm will see how it turns out with pics to follow.

Do we need an Irmscher Injection Clublol
Could do
Only me and you in it ATM tho lol
The car looks ace, your plan are good but, if you decide your getting rid of the car as it is....let me know!
A good car in Renfrewshire is a lot easier than the usual, south of England.
whats the port shape on the 1400 spi?? is it square or are you planning to use the swing head? which would be logical tbh

No chance Marc shes a keeper lol and getting modded.

Not sure on the port shape on the spi, what are the shape of the ports on the Irmscher injection?
Why would the 1200 head be better to use and would it fit the 1400 bottom end ok?
This is what mowgli posted in another thread when someone asked about a 1.4 with 1.2 head, and iirc the injection inlet is cathedral
Mowgli says;
the 1200 carb & 1300 carb heads are to all intents & purposes identical.
the valves are the same for the 1.2, 1.3,1.4 carb & spi heads... the mpi heads have bigger valves, but its all down to inlet port shapes & matching the manifolds.
the 1.2 carb & 1.3 heads have 'cathedral ports, as in they are shapes like cathedral windows.
the mpi heads(1.4 sri, 1.6 gte/gsi) are round
the others are square.
all exhaust ports are round.
Its all double dutch to simple me lol
Anyways car collected from the graphics company.......and im over the moon with it.
Pics later on once im home.
I would say use the 1.2 head on the 1.4 block with irmscher injection and your 4 branch exhaust manifold
You'd need to ask Royston, Edd or Steve about what dizzy would be best to use.
Fuel pump wise you have a few options, external gte/gsi/Sri or internal MPI corsa/Astra or aftermarket like Iain has etc
Pretty sure you won't be stuck for help mate.
Irmscher injection kit has round ports, i will be using it with a E16SE head
wouldn't of thought the dizzy will need changing, the injection only needs the green wire from the coil to run
Fuel pump wise i have used a spi tank with a mpi in tank pump, went for that as its less holes, brackets lines etc than a external set up
looking forward to seeing these decals
Thanks for the engine/injection advice lads will come back to that another time.
Now for the grand unveiling of the decals

Those side decals look the dogs danglies, are they printed or each colour individually cut?
Can you get me a set, want to decal up the Swing.
I like the boot decals but something is not quite right with them. Poss a little too squared off on the corners and lettering not thick enough.
Top job though mate, looks good.

never seen one of these before, how rare are they then?
Eearly 80s and different, as a matter of fact wasn't the sprint 1984?
If I recall correctly, the sprint was actually based on a swing too.
I am about to try a 1.2 head on a 1.4 block so ask me in a few months how I get on. Apparently the ports on the 1.4 head are square and not good for power if being pushed. Also the 1.2 head should increase the compression which should also give more power. I don't know much about this, my first go at any sort of modifying an engine.
I have had a look at the pics of sprints that i have and the graphics on the back are close, just a tiny bit smaller originally although they were big in the first place. raising the number plate a little or even getting a slightly bigger number plate may help balance out the size if it realy bothers you?
Are you likely to be able to find the irmsher alloys too, that would really set it apart!

Sprint kit is sold, not sure about the DR yet. How much for a set?
Would need to check as mine were fitted by them.
Go DR something diffrent again.
Loving that.. especially when its done on such a clean base car.
I fitted a 1400 spi block in in my otherwise 1200 nova - it definately gave it a bit more grunt, but beware - those 1400 blocks are prone to temporarily seizing the oil pump (as I found out : / )

Need to try and get Bazil to work out one of his infamous road trips.
I ain't going first car again lol,
I try and put one together for after billing?
Kinda thinking, beith, Irvine, girvan, Stranraer, Dumfries then back along to the 74 and home up the motorway if it's late or back through Ayrshire if enough time,
That should entice some of the Ayr boys and the borders lads??

Nice Replica, @ this years Irmscher Spring Fair i asked about the Sprint-Series... about 70 % of the Orginal R's didn't had the trims, most of this cars were red colored, i'm not sure what they said about the R's produced by Irmscher but i think i remembering less than 1500 pcs. The Orginal R/DR/C-Engine was 13N(B) wich was fitted with a Multipoint injection that Irmscher engineered (there is a Irmscher logo casted on the Intake) it has no Catalysator. These Kits were also for DIY avaible. The GTE's Intakes are not the same cause they've been optimized for 1600s and have an other programming in the ECU.
How to build a 1400 based single point engine with about 78 BHP:
Engine 1400 (C14NZ not that X14SZ/NZ-Crap)
Head 1300 (it doesn't matter if its one of 13N(B), 13S or C13N they are all the same)
Camshaft from the 13S, this is very important that its a real 13S Cameshaft 'cause its the sharpest GM ever build for the Smallblock-Engines (about 289°)
Intake manifold from the C13N you can also use a Intake from the Carb 1,3s but you must make an adapter plate (3 Stud to 2 Stud) that you can fit the Multec of the 1400 on it
Multec injecton valve from a 1600 (C16NZ) some like it more torque from the bottom (use the valve from the 1400) some more torque > 3000 rpm (then use the valve from the 1600)
4 in 1 Outake Manifold or from the C16SE (has an 4-3-1 lining)
The Engine looks identical to the 1200 Engines (No need to be afraid @MOT or the Cops), consumes not so much Gasoline like the GTE-Engines (C16SE, C16SEJ) & goes like hell

No worries thank you for building two great cars. Great collection of novas id be proud of either/both. The Injection system would be icing on the cake. Im back on the nova scene after a much needed break so I'm sure ill get chance to see one of your cars at some upcoming meetings. All the best with both cars in future

Nice one mate, glad to see it's still getting use. Bazil was up the garage today in the van and he was talking about having the gsi out the other day, all he could hear was the grit on the road hitting the underside:@
lol slowly rusting away lol
Meh turn up the radio and I don't hear the grit lol,
Looking good Graeme,

Great to see this car at Dean Castle on sunday, shame about the weather and my kid's cutting our chat short :D Let us know next time your having a meet would be good to have a nose around the motors in the dry :) Cheers Paul
Second that mate. Sprint was looking really good yesterday.
Good to catch up again aswell :D
David.
Seen this in the flesh for the first time yesterday, lovely car graeme :)
Thanks for the positive comments boys makes it all worth it.
A long over due update, been collecting parts for a while now, ATE 256mm brake set up, Bilstein B10 suspension kit with new top mounts and a full flo flex bush kit. Also fitted a new clutch as the old one was on the way out.
Only problem i came across was the ATEs didnt fit under the 3 spoke so had to change the wheels, didnt want to as i didnt think the black finish on the wheels would suit the car but once fitted i think they do.

It is a 2 piece Irmscher spoiler, the same as fitted to the Sprint.

Bumping this old thread after stumbling upon it via googling Corsa Sprints. This is freaking epic. So so 80s and as others have said, a nice break from the usual Sport replicas or redtop conversions! I love the oversized decals on the tailgate....having seen the original brochure photos they're pretty dead on.

WOuld you ever consider the 'DR' Sprint with white bumpers? Not the wide body but looks like a converted SR:
https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/230023_10154627377180162_4581778084752871148_n.jpg ?oh=377b9a7c3508d42006ac43f50bc2a710&oe=54B9B2E6&__gda__=1421319518_3d0576ae22b1ccfe4e314108fe76078 d
Choices choices. ...... when I started this wee side project it was to get me back out in a nova as my main sport project is/has taken along time, so the brief for the sprint was simple get it done on the cheap lol had most of the bits lying around. Once the sport is finished you never know imight make it a DR replica, only time will tell.
