hi all, recently bought a nova luxe in need of a restoration...

It's pretty quick :lol: full engine rebuild, restore and repaint the shell, compomotive mo5 wheels are going on it and lots of powdercoated goodies on the underside :D

not much of an update really been trying to sort the starting issue and running problem.. seemed to take forever to crank over so i checked the coolant temp sensor and found the wires were crossed and touching so fixed that and hey presto it starts up every time no problems :D as for the idling problem it was down to my cams/pulleys i have fit the standard cams on it for now until i get throttle bodies and other bits on it then i will have it remapped. got my wheels back from the shot blasters the other day too and i have also ordered two rear arches which will be here tomorrow.

Started attacking the rear arches today, I'll be honest I wasn't expecting it to be as much work as it was lol, I've done mot repair welding at work but this is by far the biggest repair job I've done..

Where I left it for today, most of the weld ground down... Still have a patch on the inside to weld up and join the inner arch to the outer and underseal the whole arch, then do the other side (which is a lot worst)

Done quite a lot today, first thing for me to do was finish off the arch.. couldn't finish last week due to running out of gas in welder :facepalm: had to finish off the patches on the inner arch, grind back all the welds and seam sealer/underseal.

Then I had to tackle the filler work on the arch after I plug welded the inner arch to outer arch.

Was at the garage all day today, cut ALOT of rust off the o/s arch, welded up the rear panel and cut out the tin foil strut brace :lol:

Dash is out also as for the engine i will be replacing big end bearings, leaving main bearings, piston rings, bottom end gaskets... head will be skimmed and new head gasket kit head port and polished valves re-lapped was going to get block overbored but I want to concentrate on building a let engine when the Nova is done only reason I'm doing as much as I am with the xe is its a learning curve for me :)

Crap update, started on stonechipping the car... Rear panel.. Had to weld up a few bits I missed last time :lol:

Spent 5 minutes making up a side panel for the dash, used the panel for the inside of the boot for some reason I quite like the kick up part of the panel lol think it might look quite good when its bonded on and flocked ;)

Also had nothing but **** when trying to find a decent head, 2 gm cast heads and 1 coscast head were ****ed and number 4 was mint! Was a pain in the ass had head number 4 skimmed and pressure tested so its all sweet got all the bits to rebuild the engine too now will be tackling the engine bay this weekend and stonechipping the underside.

Thankyou, only been welding properly a year only 19 got plenty of years more practice and I have a great teacher lol Its different but I love it! Yeah welded above the chassis leg for strength looks great in person :)

These patches? I replace both on the o/s and the smaller one on the n/s I do like keeping it all looking original as you said it takes a little longer but well worth it IMO same with my inner arch repair.

I find when fitting the 8v baf , that it makes the oil pickup hit the base of the sump , remove level sencer plate and check to see if all is gravey .

Could lead to oil starving .

Just been thinking how does it hit the base of the sump? It's bolted in the original position? Baffle doesn't make any difference to the clearance?

The baf on the 8v is a little thicker then the original two cork gaskit if i rember rightly , plus it has to clip in to the baf which mite put it out a little out. Only going by what i have seen on others .

Will strip the level sencer off another i have tonight and have a look see .

Started smoothing the engine bay today, would have had it all done only got 2 coats of filler in it was taking about an hour and a half each time for the filler to set!! Also stonechipped the inside of the car up to where the rear seats were (for durability I'm not putting carpet in) almost gave up at one point it has been freezing today!! :lol:

Just tried the rad as I wanted to make sure it was all fine was stressing a bit but I've been assured it goes at an angle and you can get a rad hose on if it goes at an angle can't seem to get it to angle though as one of the lugs is in the way :boggle:

Also ordered my inlet manifold for the bike carbs... Only £240!! :lol: plus I bought a metre of silicone hose it's another £700 I didn't budget for :o I'm **** at sticking to budget!! :lol:

Put the hinges on today, was quite straight forward so they now fit well, open and shut without masking tape :lol:

And lastly this relay, what runs off of it? Is it the fuel pump relay? If so can I remove it as I will be running a low pressure pump and a regulator?

Any help much appreciated.
