Pulp fiction
Shawshank redemption
True romance
American beauty
American history X
One flew over the cuckoos nest
Dazed and confused
Goodfellas
Casino
Ronin

And 100 others I can't think of ....

Best tv programme has got to be the sopranos, watched it over Christmas for the first time, puts alot of movies to shame. Currently on series 4 of the wire , it's pretty good too.

Somerstown

More well known stuff would include:
Forrest Gump
Green Mile
Harry Brown
Gran Torino
Drive
Adam Sandler Stuff, Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy, Waterboy etc
Hangover
Back to the Future

And a really random one
Home Alone! only at christmas mind! lollol

15-06-12, 07:06 PM
carry on up the khyber.
the road warrior(mad max 2)
young frankenstein
jungle book
blues brothers

they are films that i can watch again & again for my own reasons.

but i agree on the sentiment that there are simply too many films...

there are some great films that simply aren't famous, but would make my list

oscar (stallone comedy)
matinee (it never got a cinema release in the uk)
raising arizona
leningrad cowboys go america
son of rambow

then there are films you wouldn't put on in polite company

bad santa
dude where's my car
boogie nights
life of brian
theres something about mary

then 80's movies

back to the future
ferris buellers day off
uncle buck
weekend at bernies
ghost busters

then hitman films

grosse point blank
leon
the day of the jackal (original)
munich
nikita

french films

amelie
jean de florette/manon des sources
cyrano de bergerac
delicatessen
m. hulot's holiday (which was mercilessly robbed for the mr. bean sequel)

car chase films

bourne trilogy
ronin
italian job
driver
vanishing point

racing films are much harder, cos most are crap

but the lemans & grand prix films have some good action scenes in them

i'm pinning my hopes on the new 'rush' film about hunt & lauda in '76

and i haven't even got onto sci-fi, horror etc...

Greatest film is easy for me - American Gangster.

Picking a top 5 though is pretty impossible but would have at least another Denzel film in it.

Southie

Easy Rider
Coming to America
Smokey and the Bandit
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Donnie Darko

IT, as in the clown IT? lol Jesus that brings back some memories, i couldnt turn a tap on through my childhood after watching that! Scared the crap out of me when i was about 4/5 or whenever it was.

mowgli
15-06-12, 07:18 PM
IT? the one with the scary clown?? that was a mini series, wasn't it?...

i love reading books & then get really disappointed at the film adaptations.... silence of the lambs put the bejesus up me & the film had to cut corners to make it 2hrs long, and was nowhere near as good (seriously, even though anthony hopkins made everyone's skin crawl)

i will never watch 'hannibal' having read the book, it has some horrific imagery that i don't want to see made into pictures. it involves killing & eating of young children..

Southie
15-06-12, 07:21 PM
Another 5 I've thought of lol :
Taxi Driver
Herbie [any of them lol]
Star Wars the original
Scarface
Death race 2000 [the original is worth the watch just for the cheese factor lol]

turbojolt
15-06-12, 07:25 PM

that is a very good point . thats why i watch lord of the rings and titanic (i mean watching a boat sink for 3 hours it my way of getting asleep )

mowgli
16-06-12, 09:09 PM
i only watched titanic to see kate winslets knockers...they were ok, but i'm glad i didn't shell out for cinema tickets to see them
the rest of the film was crap...

james cameron hasn't done a good film in decades (the abyss), but the visual spectacle of titanic or smurfs in space (avatar) is impressive, yet the films themselves are poor, with non-existant stories & characterisations
