View Full Version : Spoilerless 888, what do we think?

Well due to the spoiler mounts on the 888 rubbing there was a little bit of rust starting on the boot so I decided to get the boot replaced. I managed to get a new genuine GM boot lid for £20 off Ebay and it was kindly delivered to me by Vaughan a couple of years ago.
I finally got round to getting it painted by the Vauxhall bodyshop next door and I got if fitted today. It looks a little naked at the moment, not sure if I like it although the spoiler was pishing me off!

Whats people's thoughts?

Id look into another spoiler if i were you Rich, the mechano one always looks wrong and totally out of place on there imo, but then its a factory fit thing and part of the 888 package so the purists would want to rape you with a meat tenderiser if any of them saw you lol

fit it when you come to sell it if you like.... its your car....

i just bay searched astra coupe spoiler, and was bombarded with choices from a lip spoiler for less than £20 to the krazee german stuff.... i think you are spoiled for choice......(and it wasn't meant as a crap pun)

I think I will run without 'The Wobbler' for a bit and refit it if I cannot get used to it. Will have a hunt round for a lip spoiler and try that first if I can.

Do you use it enough to worry if its got a spoiler or not tho ? lol

i think it looks better without, the 888 spoiler looks like something you fnd hanging of the roof of a saxo

Andy
09-06-12, 05:20 PM
Leave it on,just looks like any other astra coupe without.
But then with it on,it looks like a barry astra coupe to those not in the know lol
You probably get looks of-"he really is old enough to know better" lol

Keep spoiler in shed for resale, hunt down irmscher coupe spoiler ,think another 888 owner has done the same a few years ago in total vauxhall mag,it looked the business.

Much better without the meccano Rich, however I will say it does need a little something on their. E46 lip spoiler? the boot lids up top are a similar shape....

Nick.

Cut the boot off... spoiler problem solved lol

It does need something Rich, maybe a lower version of the meccano effort.

The 888 spoilers, albeit not to everyones taste, make a 888 stand out from the 12345666 million blue astra coupes on the road.
My vote is to keep it :thumb:

Atrocious spoiler, but you bought the car cos you liked it so assume you like the spoiler, so refit it job jobbed.

Far better imo if it needs one on the road fit a little for functionality, put that one in your loft of doom where we know it'll never come back out lol

sport
09-06-12, 11:38 PM
Rich, if you keep the spoiler off the 888 then take the 40s off the sport lol

This said its late Saturday night and ive had a few beers and vodka so best ignore me :thumb:

Definetly needs the 888 spoiler back on, looks like a standard/rep astra without it.

Doesnt matter as noone will ever see it without the spoiler on as he never drives it lol

lulz

I don't like the 888 spoiler, but imo it need something as its too bland without one..

The standard 888 spoiler will give good downforce, I dunno how hard you push the thing round bends at speed? If it's mainly for fast road / high speed in a straight line then leave it off & it'll be faster with less drag.

If you do want something different that gives you that high speed stability then go for something different like this maybe:-

Novasport

It came out of the factory with no spoiler on it, 888 bolted it on in Oxfordshire ;)

BRoadGhost
10-06-12, 06:41 PM
I would; put some real seats in it ;P

Opiions on the spoiler please, not the rest of the car.

Pistol Pete
10-06-12, 08:54 PM
Hmmm, i would leave it on. But if you really dont like it.....as Nick suggested, an E46 boot lip gets my vote.

John

888 spoilers always look cheap and tacky to me.

Having said that it's an 888 so it should have some sort of spoiler unless you're after a more covert approach?

Saw this thread when it first started and thought i'd wait to reply.

If it was anything other than the nasty rear spoiler, you wouldn't have thought twice about (re)fitting it.

If by chance you'd have had to have removed the front bumper (to get that repaired) and fitted a standard one, you'd have never just kept the standard Coupe bumper on, same with anything OTHER 888 on the car

It's just the fact that the rear spoiler is the (and always has been) the worst part of the car, tried to make it look like
http://www.btccpages.com/photos/aj/2001/011007bh_r2526/astras1.jpg

but couldn't as it'd not been road legal, so fitted the biggest they could in the same style.

Just get the drill out and get it back on.

(You'd never have taken anything of your Sport and not refitted it)

Is that Scott's old one with the Lambo doors? If so then that's not what I like.

Yes, Rich, that is indeed Scotts old 888.

I say just have the other boot lid repainted with the spoiler on a put it in the loft, it's far from an attractive part of the car, and as for everyone saying it has to be there it's an 888, if it can be replaced for resale then how does it matter and that's like saying Iain 's sport shouldn't have a spoiler or Edd's shouldn't have injection or Paul W's shouldn't be on bodies, it really doesn't matter as long as it can be put back to standard, I like the fact it makes it unique and I'm the biggest sheep ever liking speedlines and Gsi kits lol
