the 037's were amazing right up till they crashed, then they sort of folded up into a ball, then the engineers built the delta, and spent all the budget on performance & none of it on safety..... exit group b stage left....

Those old films are pure class. It was the sight (and sound) of the Group B Quattros, 205 T16's, et al on the Circuit of Ireland that hooked me on rallying when I was a youngster. It took me another 30 years because of life getting in the way before actually getting my own Nova rally car and am having great fun competing now (too old to really challenge the young guns, but I keep them honest, lol!!).

Back to the point of my post......I was told by someone who should know, that the S4 Delta that Toivonen was killed in exploded because they were cheating by using the roll cage to actually store high pressure Nitrous. Official story/records say that the aluminium fuel tank under his seat exploded but confirm they never actually proved anything as there was nothing left apparently by the time they put the fire out. Anyone else ever heard this "other" story?
