So chucked in a new battery

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/Land%20Rover%203%20Series%20Project/_MG_9316.jpg

Turned it over to check mice haven't nom'd the wiring and seemed ok.

New plugs

Also dropped the oil and gave it a new oil and fuel filter.

New fuel in both tanks and tried to get it to start, no joy :( checked for spark and nothing so think the coil is fuber. New one will be on order tomorrow so will see how I get on with that. :)

Before it was parked up all the paint was stripped off using baking powder (iirc) by a mobile sand blaster guy. All the alloy panels are nice and clean but any bits of steal are covered in surface rust. So once i get it out the garage i will attack it with a wire wheel.

Ideally we would like to convert it to an auto and fit a v6/v8 but after doing some research it seems like it will be alot of work. So not sure.

Keep it original and restore it? Might be worth something to someone one day

Got some new rimz donated to the project, Merris will aprove as they are pure Essex...

22 inch Overfinch split rims... I have made an executive decision and they will be goin on ebay this weekend. Funds should go toward the V8, thinking of buying a complete classic range rover as a donor.

Still want to get it running and possibly mot'd as standard before we tackle the conversion.

So, new coil,

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/Land%20Rover%203%20Series%20Project/_MG_9334.jpg

Still no spark :( so made myself a multi meter with a bit of wire and a bulb. Coil pos to battery neg and it lit up, coil neg to battery pos and nothing. So duff earth to the coil. Fitted a new earth and the coil has started to spark... Yay, progress lol still nothing from the dizzy, so new dizzy, leads and rotor arm will be on order tomorrow.

Oh for lolz this is the old fuel filter...

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/Land%20Rover%203%20Series%20Project/_MG_9347.jpg

Not sure on the filtering properties of dust. lol

The original One Ten of 1983 was available with the same engine line-up as the Series III (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_Rover_Series) vehicles it replaced, namely 2.25-litre (137 cu in) petrol and diesel engines, and a 3.5-litre (210 cu in) V8 petrol unit, although a small number of 3.2-litre (200 cu in) V8s were produced. (taken from wikipedia)
ive seen a few series 3s that have the v8 in most were the 3.5 sdi engines which were virtually bombproof, i found this website on v8s thought it might help http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/engine_conversion_V8.htm and a friend down the road used these for bits http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/engine_conversion_V8.htm hope this all helps looking forward to seeing it running

Well we got it running, turns out the points on th dizzy were stuck.

Next job was the clutch, it was solid. So we dropped all the fluid out, flushed the system through with fresh stuff and bled the system.

Hand brake off and...

Stood for 10 years and the brakes wern't even stuck...

Dad was pleased lol

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p72/wiggardywoo/Land%20Rover%203%20Series%20Project/_MG_0360_1.jpg

We decided it needs to be the other way in the garage so turned it round down the road. (I know its naughty but meh)

My mate has just finished a full restoration on a series 2. Really stunning truck now.

His has the 2 1/4 petrol in it, I wouldn't bother with anything else. Once you drive it properly you will realize without lots of work a v8 or similar would be pointless.

Good luck/ if you need any info on these feel free to PM me.

BTW the steering box can be fun to rebuild!!

stick a fairy overdrive in it, you would be surprized how much difference it makes.keeps it original, without the major pissing about of a full engine change.

quite a tidy lightweight, i have just got rid of most of my series spares, got a rear axle and a steering box, may have a few other bits if you need anything mr hobbit!!
