I have acquired a spare short motor (xe) with 86p pistons, early light crank and a great condition block. I am yet to source a spare head so will need to store the block for an unknown length of time.

What is the best way as I don't want any surface rust to occur on the block as you can still see the original honing marks. I was thinking to lubricate it with wd40 and then completely wrap it in cling film? Or should I use a heavier grease/oil and just wipe it off when I use it?

Paint it with grease, won't run off vertical surfaces then.

lightly paint it in engine oil then cling film will be fine, thats essentially what manufactering did when i worked at a brake distribution
