View Full Version : Anyone know R6 fuel system?

Hi, I have a set of 2006 R6 throttle bodies that I got cheap off Ebay. I was thinking about trying to use them on my baby xe. They came with the fuel rail and injectors but I can't get my head around how the fuel pressure is regulated. There seems to be what looks kind of like a regulator in the middle of the fuel rail but it wouldn't work there surely, and from what I've read its a pressure damper??? I pressume it has some kind of diaphragm in it that absorbs any pressure fluctuations?? The rail has a return so it is not a "dead head" system like a lot of bikes so could I use an inline regulator on the return? I was hoping to be able to use the standard r6 regulator rather than shelling out on an adjustable one but I can't find any and don't know how/where they fit. Anybody have any ideas?

the injection was 2006 onwards.

could be ones that are used with the staged injectors. The FPR is usualy on the staged injector rail.
might be a case of getting a rail from a bike withought staged injectors.
not 100% on R6 ITBs but the cbr's are like that.

It seems from reading the manuals that they do have primary and secondary injectors, and I have the primary, even more confused now!! I read up on the injectors to make sure they would flow enough but dunno whether I found the combined flow rate or what now.
More reading methinks.
I drilled and tapped the blank end of my fuel rail when fitting these then machined a nipple down to connect a FPR and return feed pipe. Worked that's how other people do it.

Hmmm, I already have a return, I just didn't know how the fpr worked with it as normally on cars they are on the end of the fuel rail. I guess I'll just have to put one in the return line.
What bodies did you use? did you use the bike injectors? I'm not sure the injectors I have will be up to the job as the bike ran two per cylinder so I guess they won't flow that much. I have considered trying to get the R6 airbox and use the secondary injectors in there as well but not sure if it'll fit and whether it will just get too complicated. Planning on using Megasquirt though and that supports staged injectors.
This is not as simple as I had first thought/hoped!
K3 GSXR Throttle bodies. Standard injectors were OK for said car as they flow 240cc and the engine was a 1600. I removed the secondary butterfly's as they weren't needed.
I May have had some R6 ones before the GSXR ones? Are they the ones with the black diyafram and plastic plungers that go up and down? If they are you need to ditch them throttle bodies like I did as you'll struggle.... You are much better getting the GSXR ones and removing the second butterfly's which do the same job as them plastic plungers they help deliver power smoother on a bike.
What ECU you running? Its important to note bike injectors and different to car injectors. Bike injectors tend to be low impedience 2.5/3 OHM where as car injectors are 12ohm. The bike ones need an ecu that can cope with the low Ohmage or you need to use resistors which aren't ideal its something else to go wrong.

I think the earlier r6 TBs had the sliders like carbs to try and slow the engine response. I have the later ones that don't have that but run two sets of injectors, one set in the TB's and another set in the airbox. I think that if the bike uses two sets of injectors then a single set won't be enough. I have tried searching but cannot find out what cc/min they are. I know the earlier injected R6's were about 235cc/min but they ran one injector per cylinder.
I plan to use Megasquirt which can support low impedance injectors, I think you just have to alter some of the settings.
What size are the GSXR bodies?
