Keith is right its a 1.6 16v on 45,s mbe etc its interesting re:the lines through paddock i thought that when i started racing wide entry hit apex use all of the track on the way out but in reality if overtaking etc you cant allways take the optimum line i was given a bit of 2nd hand information from a succesful driver that in smaller cars you dont carry enough speed to neccesitate using all of the track and the quickest route is the shortest route ! the vid quality is rubbush on youtube for some reason my footage from the gopro is spot on but doesnt upload that way

great vid; 'on it' driving as always. Yeah i think the format of the original video needs changing to something thats more compressed maybe; so it still is high quality but smaller bytes..? That way when uploading to youtube it wont ruin it perhaps.

You are probably right and if i wasnt a computer retard i would do exactly as you suggestlol

no worries, as you see im not sure either. In the brands trackday vid the passenger (pink hat) shows how brutal that car is, thrown around a plenty.

The video doesnt really give you an idea of what it is like all i can say is i have had to wear lower back support as it feels like you have been for a work out after driving and 15mins is long enough to be driving in one go

I am in class D which is any car up to 2lt 16v, in my class on saturday was a 1800 clio and 2000 integra ,the only cars in the lower class (e) were the 2 bubble arched escorts ,both owned by mates of mine both running very tasty all steel 1800 crossflows on throttle bodies

the rules are a bit odd with the 50% capacity multiplier for all sorts of things...

and also the fact that you were whalloping most other things.

why did you start at the back? cos it looked like you could have won the race outright with a better grid slot

I had a problem with my wets hitting my calipers so couldnt do a time in qually,i have no chance of winning overall the 306 that passes me has 450 hp there is a wrc escort a dimma kitted 205 using a touring car engine reputedly 270bhp all very quick cars and then some very quick cossies aswell ,i think everything sort of went my way in that race ,unfortunatly in the 2nd race where i started 4th i got a good start was tight behind the 306 going into paddock where he braked very early locked up ,i then locked up trying to avoid him and ended up in the gravel so that was race 2 over .Apparently he did the same thing in the first race and took the wrc escort out but i was un sighted as i started at the back in the video ,you can see the dust go up that was the incident ,he got called to see the clerk of the course but no action was taken .He had a new brake setup that he was not used to

Impressive driving and car. I should study the video to get a better idea on lines for corners etc for track days. You seem to whizz through them.

Since i started racing i watched the lines the experienced racers take in similar cars and they are not the lines you would expect or be taught but when you have cars around you if you take the optimum line you will get overtaken

Great driving, but cant help but feel the class is a little daft-177bhp vs 450?! crazy.

the classes seem to be structured so someone can race a big engined car with limited mods against a smaller car with loads of mods.

I think you are mistaking the class structure i was not racing the pug for class honours but a podium place ,i still won my class

Forgot to add that things like non manufacturer heads and sequential gearboxes carry a cc penalty Bill richards has a KAD 16v mini that is 1460 cc but is in class c because the head is a bespoke item so a 50%cc increase. The red mk2 escort has a warrior head and sequential box so gets a penalty he is class b

its a pretty clever class structure to get a load of differing cars out in a single race. and to be honest, most of these cars would struggle to find a championship in which to race regularly. these regional ones are a good idea

There's no fcuking around in that environment I can see...

The cornering speeds are very, very good.

You need a faster rack & to set that steering wheel straight; your hands are all over the place.

Do you know what your camber & castor values are atm?

With a little bit of refinement imo you could have an extremely competitive car.

toymex
06-06-12, 05:24 PM
The camber and castor has all been set as have the corner weights ,its got a quaife quick rack so dont know if you can get a different ratio but feels ok incar and yes i must straighten the wheel ,but just seem to forget when checking car over ,as for being competitive i am less than 1/2 second off the all time DMN class record held by a very good semi pro driver ,i am still on old front tyres so hope to be very close to the lap record soon:d

How many degrees of positive castor are you running may I ask? Are the track rod ends standard going into the knuckle from the top?

Larger wheels could be the answer too / instead, because the less you have to move hands the easier it will be.

I don't think Quaife list a higher ratio, but I bet they could make one should it ever come to that; [last on the list imo].

Not wanting to come across conceited but I'm fairly confident I could get round brands at a quick pace without taking my hands off 10 to 2.

I think that my seating position is something to do with hands on wheels ,have you ever tried 10 inch hot slicks !seating position and pedal position is high on the list of things to do in the winter
