Best gearbox for an XE?

Currently running a F16 on my Xe in the Nova, whats the best all round gearbox? I want something that pulls really well in low gears, gets the acceleration up, but doesnt effect the top speed too much? :(

Standard F20. I had a F16 (not Cr) and it was a bag of ****. The car seemed really tired whilst running it.

is a bit of hassel but i am going to using a f16 close ratio gearbox but with the 5th gear set up off the f16 long ratio mine has a long ratio gearbox which is in my nova xe and i great on a run

I've an F20 in mine, and I really can't fault it, gets through the gears really quick, will pull hard from 40 in 5th gear, and is still revving at 3500 rpm at 60mph, So for that reason alone I wouldn't even entertain a lower geared box tbh. And it's still geared high enough to make a digi dash flash with no fuss ;) Imagine a run with an F16 :eek: :cry:

I feel the same as you Lewis. I have the F20 with the 3.55 (?) final drive; it sits happily at 70/80, accelerates through the gears OK and can hit a theoretical top speed of 140.

On some of the smaller circuits (even the faster ones like Donington) I don't get into 5th gear which probably isn't ideal, but oh well.

There are 3-4 f20 ratio setups out there lol

Dave, you won't get a super fast accelerating gearbox while keeping your pub bragging rights top speed lol unless you get a 7 speed box or 500bhp that overcomes a geared for top end box lol

You might laugh but my last xe nova had an f28 fitted, was ace on motorways, and tbf felt similar to an f20 going through the gears enthusiastically lol

well, the cr is the original gte box, it was a great all round acceleration box, but the marketing people wanted a quicker 0-60 time, so the engineers stuck the wr box in... 1 less gearchange was worth more than half a second....... to sixty.......

best box ive used was a normal f20 with f20 4x4 internals

the 4x4f20 has stupid ratio's, rev happy gearbox and could do 140easy but would be high 6-7k :)

where does the whole "f16 box is weaker thern the f20" come from if they were both installed a standard shouldnt they both be up to the job?
