was in decathlon today and noticed a sign saying 27L backpack 30.00, but on the tag it says 40.00, would they have to give you the bag for 30.00 because of the big sign or because it has a tag saying 40.00 would they just say it was a mistake?????

I believe they are legally obliged to either sell it at the advertised price or not sell it.

They can't increase the advertised price if it was an error.

Nope they can refuse to sell. I had this with a tool box from halfrauds, the sale had ended but the had not removed the discounted price. The manager just refused to sell it to me.

so the moral of this tale is that you should try your luck straight away.. if an item is advertised in store at a lower price, they are bound by law to honour it, so hobbit got shafted by the halfords manager

They aren't obliged to sell if the price is wrong, however if they do refuse they must remove said item (and any more they have of the same item n the shelf) from sale for the remainder of the day. For most businesses they'll sell once at the lower price to save the ball ache of taking everything off the shelf.

p.s stuff like this is on the Gov consumer website, it is actually, shock horror quite useful :)

i didnt know they would have to remove all the items as there was shed loads of them on the shelf, would have been funny to watch, i wonder what would happen if you stayed there and they didnt remove the item though?

Dunno, 'spose it depends on how far you'd be prepared to take it. I think you'd have to take it up with Trading Standards, at that point most places will assume apathy will win lol
