View Full Version : X16XE Misfire
Hi my x16xe has developed a misfire. It idles ok a little rougher than usual (sounds slightly subaru ish) but when accelerating theres nothing just flat.It was fine then i filled the tank with fuel and the next morning it was missing.I dont think this is the cause but ive checked the plugs and leads just want some ideas on what to check.Any help or advice would be great. Thanks

Check your timing as it may of slipped, I had this on one of my X16xes and it had actually bent a valve which makes the lovely impreza noise, sadly my had also hit a valve which hit a piston... basically mine was dead :(
I'll find a picture of the damage caused, hopefully yours won't be the same.
Edit: here you go! Not pretty!!!

That's pretty epic, how long was it running to do that kinda damage? lol
oh and to the OP, pull your plug leads off one by one, that will help narrow down which cylinder isn't firing.
How can i make sure it hasnt slipped on the timing?

Mark mine was a 70mph run down a bypass then the lively noise of impreza kicked in and then the horrendous clatter started, so about 2 minutes lol
Ive driven about 15 miles like this hasnt used any water, oil looks clean and plugs where brown in colour. How can i check for air leaks as haynes manual says check that

Awesome, nice work :d It's almost as good as an old hayabusa head we have on the front counter at work, let go at 13,000 and carried on for a bit we think. It's eaten away at a valve seat, knocked it out, and carried on munching on that about an inch into the actual port... it's sort of tragically beautiful lol
Its unlikely to be an air leak tbh - get the compression checked
I did a compression today (forgot to remove fuel pump relay) and 1,2 cyclinders read 90 and 3-4 where around 220.Still no water lost and no mayo under cap.Any ideas?
Head gasket or rings on 1 and 2. Either way, its a strip down!

Could be a burnt out valve?
