Depends. are you still running the oem management? (and its still OEM with a super chip ;) )

But in general the AST2 is 'the best' cam for all round fantasticalness in the 1.6 engine

I'm just a little confused about wether it is for a 1.3 or a 1.6 or are they the same I shall upload a pic of the stamp

The AST2 is for all small block 8V Nova ohc engines.

granted on a 1.3 it'll work straight away and a 1.6 will need carbing or management to cope.

right so by management i guess your talking mega £££, and with a carb i dont want super poor economy :(

T40's aren't bad on fuel.... well ok they are if you buy shagged ones and don't refurb properly/get them setup by a retard.

Depends on your view on things regarding management costs, given they don't depreciate much :)

really? i was under the impression that they get around 10mpg! why doesnt the AFM like the camshaft then, because theres a small amount of adjustment you can do on them for the mixture?

edit also if the ast2 isnt very compatable is there a milder cam that is?

Yeah i was heading down the twin 40's road, but app you get like 10mpg!!

You'd only get as low as 10mpg on t40 carbs if you keep your foot fully planted everywhere you drive. You can get really good economy out of them if you drive more sensibly, probably close to standard MPG if you drive in the right way.

really?! i do a fair bit of motorway miles though, with a f13cr geabox

Stuart

We had high 30's from Dans 1.6 on 40's.....

You only get crap mpg from listening to old wives tales, constantly fiddling and having a screwed set of carbs.

The standard AFM won't like the camshaft as it will upset the airflow through the system and can make the AFM think its reading different air than it really is etc

Curtoise

surley the standard AFM is not that sensitive as its just a flap?

Stuart

lol

ok, fit it.

haha, i might just to see how bad it actually is head gaskets are only £12 either way :)

now is there a way to remove the camshaft without removing the head?

Curt listen to Stuart ;)

40's can be thirsty when planting it like any modded car, but if setup correctly [and you don't get addicted to the noise] can be still efficient ;)

as stuart has tried to explain if carbs are done properly its not that bad. mine went on average 3 years between tunes, and then it was only just a top up and not really worth it. On the road we averaged high 30's as stuart said, on the track i reckon i could get it down to mid-low twenties (and i'm not gentle on track lol). mine was taken a small bit further than just carbs and cam but was epic on track and did the qtr in low 14's at pod so defo wasnt shy for a smallblock

That sounds very tempting! What's it like on motorways ?

there is a kit that you can buy. it pushes the rockers down to blow the oil out of the hyd tappets to make room for the cam to come out.. you only need a rocker cover gasket.

Curtoise

yeah i have bought one off amazon for £15 so alot less hassle than replacing the head gasket! altough in a guide i read it said to remove the rockers and thrust pads?
