What sort of difference will be had if I was to put an 1.8 cam into my 1.6 GSI nova.

Would it be worth doing?

If so has anybody got one for sale?

To be honest I don't think it'll fit. 1.6 is small-block and 1.8 isn't. Measure the cam carrier on both ould it make a difference tho? no idea but would love to know if you get it to fit.

I cant see what obvious benifit it would have.

I thought if i got a MK ! Astra GTE cam because of the higher lift it would be a cheaper way of changing it instead of spending ?200 on a Kent Cam.

Do you not think that it would work in the same way. Been told by a reliable source that it would fit.

What do you guys reckon then?

It aint just lift your after, u need duration aswell!
if the 1.8 item fits, the 2.0 item will fit! what are thediffernces there?
The engines are similar, but like vauxMD sed, the 1.8 and the 2.0 are big block!
Some 1.6 are big block, but the GSI isnt!

It won't fit. 1.8's are big block, found that out years ago when a mate of mine tried my 1800gte cam on his 1.4. Its longer!
Sorry.

What you tend to find with cam is that a bigger engine doesn't require more lift and duration. You tend to get more lift and duration with higher states of tune, so a 1.8 GTE and a 2.0 GTE might not be that different.

A 285deg cam on a 1.2 and a 1.4 will give the same benefits over standard.

which is why the 14SR cam is a better option than the GTE one for tuning the smaller engines

the 14SR cam and probably the 14SRi cam will be "wilder" than the GTE one because its easier to get power out of the 1.6 and hence the cam on the 1.6 wont be as wild as the 1400 cam

good theory
hang on ,dont that make the 1200 cam the best option

until someone puts up all specs of cams, then you cannot possibly comment on which is the best. the 1600 cam may have more duration which would outway the benifits of 0.12mm of lift. also dont trust the haynes as far as you can throw it, cus they aint allways right.

ive said before and i guess ill have to say again due to no one paying attention

the 1.4 cam is 6.12mm lift and about 240-250ish duration (didnt measure the overlaps as i couldnt be arsed)

id guess that the real differences in the 1.4 and 1.6 cam is the overlap and not jsut the lift and duration.

I have a gte with a worn cam.
I also have a mint 14NV cam from a 14SR,
Im not too bothered about any gains, all i want to know is will i lose anything?
What changes in torque will i see mid range,i dont wanna lose much low and mid range.

u wont loose anything - 14NV cam is a 1.4sr engine, and should see you a bit better performance if anything than standard ol' worn Mr.gte over there
