Freesat hd box !

im thinking of going freesat just thinking about what one to go for ?????

Samsung or humax whats all your views on them, experiences with them etc ?

Humax get good reviews, iirc Tesco have a twin tuner recorder at a decent price at the mo. Hayley has a humax freeview recorder and its a good unit, easy to use, but does sometimes freeze up. My parents have a freesat box as well, not sure what make it is but its fecking rubbish - the menu system and planner is awful to use. Will go take a look what it is later, although I think its a panasonic.

Is this a personal choice of taking freesat over freeview btw? As given the choice, I think freeview has a slightly better channel selection.

There are a couple of channels on Freeview that aren't on Freesat (like Dave) but by and large there is more worth watching on Freesat plus the image quality difference is huge. Freeview is so compressed it looks horrible in comparison

If you're interested in Itv player and some of the other interactive services that are launching you'd do well to look at the Freesat website as only certain kit (usually Humax) is supported, though you should get iPlayer on most now.

I was going to get a Humax freeview jobbie, but iirc it was £150+ & in the end we went for TiVo!

Im wanting freesat + just dont know what box i have a samsung Tv so wanted to go for the samsung box but reviews are a bit
Crap then looked at humax and again still loads of crap reviews
Although they sound better than the samsung, just wsnting some

The user interface for Samsung stuff of that nature is utterly terrible :(
The hummax isn't great but it's better than the Samsung affair.

remember most tetchy reviews will always be negative! If its the right spec and works right then happy days.

There's a certain model/range of Humax boxes which you can 'update' the firmware on, thanks to some nerds on the web that open source all their hard work. Mate has one and runs the internet, BBC iPlayer, youtube, ITV catchup, various (obviously legal) downloaded media on a network drive, as well as recording shows live etc etc

The Panasonic plasma I have my eye on does freeview/freesat he recording to USB device :) but it's not cheap lol

Aye, we've got a panny with freeview HD and freesat HD and can do record/pause/rewind live TV. Only downside compared to a proper box is they are only single tuner, so you can only watch what's being recorded on Freeview, not sure on Freesat - I'd have thought you could watch any channel whilst one was being recorded as long as both were on the same LNB 'H' or 'V' segment. Not tried it though.

LEDLCD here I'm afraid, plasma would be nice but the new panels are good enough for me I reckon.

DT30...but that's in the bedroom. Looking at a DT50 for the living room when the spends are available :thumb:

Didn't think Panasonic played much in the solid state world.... Might need to relook now, although I do prefer the 'forgivingness' of a plasma with a bad source.

Both will work and do what you want, you really have to use them both to see what menu system you prefer... Personally I loathe the way samsung menus work and prefer the hummmmmax ones.
