I think its the raised bit on the bottom left, but if you bend them all down slightly you'll be OK
The four bent up bits in the middle
these 4 ?

bend em thats the only way this used to happen all the time in the olden days
so bend the 4 circled ones flat ya ?
what bolts are needed for the 8v baffle mod?
Bend them four flat and you need m6x20 cap heads are easier if you have t bar Allen keys
** NOOB QUESTION **
What's the advantage of the 8v baffle plate ??

Bazil the 8v ones have a built in rubber gasket thus easier to line up and gets rid of leakage. Most people use to put double gaskets on to achieve the same effect but unless you did this with the engine upside down they still tended to leak over time.
Ahh cool, I won't have that issue as mine will be upside down on an engine stand :)
cheers Graeme :thumb:
did you use any washers/spring washers?

Just make sure it's all nipped and lined up right, tbh it's a worthy simple mod for piece of mind though.
Crap I've just fitted a baffle plate with those tabs untouched - I'll let you know if you need to bend them on startup I guess!

I've heard of people getting away without doing the mod on the baffle plate Iain so fingers crossed, but it will be fairly easy to adjust.
Manifold, sump, pickup, gasket off again? Its not taxing but its not a two minute job lol
Just cranked it twice by hand and it hasn't stuck or made any dodgy noises, scared lol
I have ARB bolts too which supposedly cause the problem

never knew you could fit anti roll bar bolts to the rods haha

No not a two minute job but "if" the arp bolts hit then it's your bank account that's going to suffer :p
i would just take the sump off anyway, id hate to think that theres a chance if them hitting while driving about lol

David to you too :p
I've only ever had to bend the one tab you usually do with standard rod bolts. Never had to do anything different on the baffle plate when I've fitted ARP's.
lets us know how you get on Iain :)
this bit?
only want one striaght answer f lol people are sying the 4 tabs then people are saying the "finger bit" f lol

Think you've answered your own question with that picture.

Yeah got a little brace between rods 1 and 4, I hear people tell you to take them off when you fit an XE though.
this bit?
Thats the bit I bent, so I'm gonna say YES just cos I'm scared.
Sounds like your safest option is to flatten the entire thing and grind a few mm off the rod bolts lol
Bit more digging for you and yes thats the tab to tickle out of the way

let me know how you get on iain lol :thumb:
My let with the 8v baffle and arp's never caught, also hand the block machined flat at the bottom

So its off, that tab circled is nowhere near rod #1 at all....
I believe the contact has been made by rod/bolts #4 at the top right tab of this picture:

So, er, yeah.
I had them on my xe and they didn't touch.
You can see where its started chewing in to that tab, how bizarre.

:BRAINIAC: So from this your best off doing the mod and being better safe than sorry :PROVEN:
Er yeah, except mine seems to have caught on somewhere that the "mod" doesn't say to touch. So you're best off giving up cars and taking up knitting really.

Bash em all in then lol
il cut all the lips off to be safe f lol lol
cheers for teh update iain :thumb: , sorry to hear you had to stripp in back down again
Sounds a bit brutal I'd just tickle the one above and the supposed problem one.
No worries I can do it fairly quick now. Fixed a dodgy thread in the oil pump pickup too so its not all bad!
so knock the finger one n the arrowed one in your pic ya buddy :)
seems to be strange as some people dont have this problem and aome do lol vauxhalls hay lol
my ARP's are 109-6001 weather that makes a difference as theres 2 types?
Might as well, might only be me suffering from this problem due to a wonky engine lol

It's not just me, picked up Nova Ian's old sump gasket earlier and his has touched the same place.
cheers for updating iain :thumb:
little update
fitted my 8v baffle plate to my xe with no problems (was a early engine)
fitted one last night to a mates engine (late engine thicker crank and goes ting ting ting f lol )
so looks like it fits early engines fine that have the early crank and need to be adjusted for later engine's
Mine's a 1989 20XE (not C20XE) with the early crank and it tickled.
Mine's a 1989 20XE (not C20XE) with the early crank and it tickled.
Early cranks missing does make sense since the baffle is for an 8v... So I blame the fitter there. lol
