View Full Version : Knockhill yesterday
Well anyone who has seen my posts over the last few months will have realised that the track car I bought was a really bad choice however....
It got from Aberdeen to Knockhill (2hours each way), went round the track and got home with no issues except a lot of rubber missing from the front passenger tyre, I did have to get my tool kit out twice, to help someone else..
Obviously a lot of thanks go to a lot of folk here who have given me advice but I am so pleased and almost proud that a complete non running lump of scrap as I found out the more I went into the car, ended up being reliable and managed being redlined loads.
It's a 1.4 so It clearly wasn't the fastest there but it was still fun and what a difference the suspension and brakes make over the SR, uncomfortable for road but, on the track I never got near a limit on a corner (I am sure I will in time though) compared to the sr, going slower round the corners, i came off once and was frequently tailhappy.
It was a great day, met some really nice folk, had a laugh and fortunately the car performed really well for a 1.4 Nova. Just thought I'd bore you all with my bigheadedness today!
Obviously the next step is to find and sort the oil leak that I have found and then see if I can squeeze any more power and lose any more wieght.

Gutted a missed it mate, hope ye had a good day:)
Did ye speak to wee Dean in the redtop corsa b or Scott in the nova loon?
We normally go up with them in my cousins ax.
David.

Funnily enough no one has come forward with pictures of my car, really suprising as it is a beautiful showroom looker!
It's actually even worse today as I've started stripping more stuff off it to save wieght, the idea is every little bit adds up to hopefully a lot though whether this actually makes any difference on such small engined car I suppose we will have to wait and see.

Never really paid attention to any corsas (I am ignorant and rude) but saw the saloon which really shifts, never saw them to speak but there is always next time.

You'd be surprised how much weight can be removed from a Nova...it will be a small difference in performance in relation to an increase in bhp but worth doing if the car is going to see a lot of track use
My mate was up in a silver xe corsa on tb's he said it was a good day

What els did he take off it? if theres no quaife LSD and SBD/MBE TB setup i hope you never paid over £3000 for it, as with out them it's £2000 down on the price i sold it him, and you may as well bought it off me, or built your own, as its a crime to put that car back on standard ecu/inj as it's been all set to run the 185bhp it had on the bodies.. ah well, get a thread on here of it mate, like to see your plans on it.
Just watched some of the evo vids, marc you're taking the wrong lines specially at the end of the long straight, even if I had a slow car I would still try and stay on the left after the bridge rather than keep on the right and try move over in the last second

Thanks, he is rapid in that car, makes me look so slow, well actually mine is a 1.4 so I suppose I was slow!
Pictures?
YOu asked for one well here it is!
Here is a still from a vid someone took, the lap before a silver bmw over took me just before the hairpin but was going so fast he lost it on the corner, my mate was surprised that the following lap he was still behind me.
I was crping myslef so much I never realised I was doing ok! (though many others had passed me I'm sure.)

I know what you mean but I do feel very concious that I am holding people up and the rules are to go to the right if you are sower, I don't want to make them cross although, by the end of the day my confidence was growing so hopefully in time I will get more confident and take better lines as you have said.

lol so he never intended on keeping it then, just rapped it of the Good bits and shifted it on for mega profit if he sold them separate, hope you didn't pay more then £2500 for it then, as them parts removed were worth that, and with out them the cars only worth £2500 MAX IMO ah well.. Glad your happy thought mate, get a thread up be nice to see it progress..
Yeah Ive got all the docs here, i never forwarded them to him as he would not send me some items he said he would send back, as i didn't get time to remove them, only png club stickers and my Opel tax holder lol
