Simple question, but in everyones experience whats the best way of fitting a splitter?

I've used self tapper screws and washers and they either loosen off or it pulls out of them, and one side fell off earlier lol

Are you using u-nuts with the self tappers and are the self tapers the ones designed for countersunk holes?

I personally prefer bolts, nylocs and small repair washers.

No u-nuts, just holes drilled in the bumper plastic. Not countersunk ones, just large threads with 10mm hex heads. Bolts would be ideal but unsure if I can get to the back of the bumper when its fitted.

I'm using the original big square holes in the splitter, which may explain why it keeps slipping out. Probably should have drilled fresh ones.

Was thinking tigerseal lol

tigerseal would do it but its pretty much permanent so no probs if you don't need to take it off ever. Maybe drill some new holes and stick some u nuts on there if you might need to remove it.

Yeah new holes may be the way. Thanks sir

Colin smith has some interesting observations on splitter design & mounting, from the aero blokey at mira, basically, if the mounting & splitter aren't strong enough to withstand your weight with you stood on it, then it isn't strong enough.

I alway use 10mm head ss bolts and nylon nuts as I don't want a screw to fall out and go in my tyres

Lion, you talking about the mk4 rubber lip? if so mine on my old TC was just screw on with a 1" 6mm head wood screw every 2" apart, and it NEVER came loose of flapped about, there is pics of me going round combe and it's solid!

An aerodynamic splitter and the flappy bit on the bottom of a standard cars bumper to make it look pretty are very different though lol

thats funny, considering his current mounting method isn't up to the job....

i don't think iaiaiain does stuff on his nova just for pretty, he does stuff to make it faster on the track..

This one's semi looks wise I'm sorry to say Mowgli lol:( Aside from deflecting a little bit of air from under the car and the front wheels. Not at the 'proper' splitter stage of development yet!

Yes Scott it's the mk4 Astra trim, I used the original square holes and it keeps coming out of them.

You dummy, screw it to the bumper by just driving the screws straight through it! lol

use proper bolts or screws & washers. The original plastic is not man enough. Maybe use some opened out jubilee clips to make little adjustable stays. You cut them in 2 half way along the strip. Then drill holes fot fixing.

Mowgli, your nice bloke, and you do know lots of things, but some times you over engineer a simple fix...
My mk4 splitter was screed on, like every one Ive ever done, and it never came loose or flapped one bit, i use small wood twin fast screws about every 2-3 inches apart, works fine FACT!
