Should I be using mineral oil to run my engine in with ?

In a project thread its mentioned that it will help the rings bed into the bores ?

Not knowing any of this I have dumped semi synthetic in there

I now thinking I should dump its out and put mineral in there

Only had it running for 30mins tops in total, any damage done ?

Ideas/thoughts and suggestions please :)

just use the engine oil you plan to use when its running up the road.

most of this stuff about running in engines is for stuff from the sixties/early seventies, when oil really was crap, and people had to adjust tappets...
it really isn't relevant for the vast majority of ohc engines (apart from the pinto)

gm didn't put special oil in when they built it.

Running in oil is supposed to not protect as much as longlife everyday oil so it'll allow to bed the components in... in theory. I'll be using this Millers running in oil just to be on the safe side.

You bed rings in, you want max wear for 50 miles then change and it's good to go.

In the plant the engine will have been broken in, even in the 90's

Just thrash it from day one ;) My demos are better the harder you use them when running in.

I'm running in atm too; rods & rings, doing progressively more revs as the miles rack up.

600 miles covered & the semi synth oil still looks pristine; gonna change it 1000 miles either way though.

please explain why rods need 'running in'..... I'm genuinely interested lol
