The wiring for the fuel pump in my track car was straight from the battery with a switch between.

I decided today to change it from that to going through the ignition instead of from the battery as there is no need for fuel if there is no ignition. From ignition, to a fuse, then to the fuel switch.

Is there any benefit to it being from the battery or is better the way I have done it?

should really have the switch operating a relay as most switches aren't designed to take he current the pump will be pulling.

I have done about 3 hundred miles with the car and the switch has been ok so far?

Is there a specific relay or if it has gone so far should it be ok? The instructions for the pump didn't suggest a relay as this pump is a lowish psi, only a 1.4 carb car. Thus why I didn't put one on.

Is going through the ignition better than straight from the battery though?

Going through the ignition is much better than from te battery

Have a look in my project thread about 3/4 the way trough

There's a picture of a diagram for wiring a fuel pump from a switched live through a relay
